Title: On the topic of campfood/beverages.
Post by: Toecutter on November 09, 2018, 10:51:10 AM
I thought I'd post a link to this, I have no affiliation with it, but I'm a 100% fan of it. It's the greatest rig for moto camping, backcountry camping, I even keep it in the vehicle in the "winter emergency box". I can store a bunch of stuff inside it to maximize pack space, and it's super light. The biggest weight comes from the fuel bottle... it burns methyl hydrate, so fuel is super easy to come by and dirt cheap. Quick boil in the morning for that hit o' everyone's favourite early morning drug, and another if you choose to actually eat, too. Works well in windy conditions.

Honestly, I love mine. I have the larger one and it's more than adequate for my wife and I when Moto-camping, but thinking of picking up the smaller one for those solo trips, too.

I've had the spirit burner and fuel bottle for many years now.  Carry a bottle of Bacardi 151 or denatured alcohol in the fuel bottle and you have something to cook with.

I also have a small stove that burns kindling to boil water if you know you are going to be in a wooded area.  You'd be surprised how little wood it takes to boil water.

An excuse to keep some emergency Everclear in the bag? I like it ...

Well, Damn!  I would have stocked up if I had known they were going to discontinue.  Haven't been able to drink alcohol for a couple years now.  Doesn't mix well with the prescription stuff.

The NZ army WWII used what was known as a Benghazi Boiler, My plumber Uncle used to make a version out of galvanized sheet metal, all you needed was a few twig and it would be boiling in minutes.

Bought Bacardi 151 in Florida 2 days ago so I guess it is still available.

Penny Stoves are fun to make and easy to fuel and cook off of. Ever clear, Heet and/or denatured alcohol are readily available.

Still stock in the pipeline but they have stopped making it. Apparently too many lawsuits over fires during stunts.

There's another similar rum that I think has also gone for the same reason. Both have disappeared up our way altogether.
