Title: That Jawa has been announced
Post by: Aaron D. on November 15, 2018, 06:55:48 PM
Here's the link
https://www.jawamotorcycles.com/

So you can tell this is a 4 stroke. I will have to look for the earlier post to see if the engine is the same as previously pictured.

That's pretty! 300cc twin port single, water cooled? nicely finished.

It will take a big effort for me to envision a Jawa with a four stroke engine. Part of their appeal was the simplicity and reliability of those 250cc two stroke engines. OTOH, the new one is easier to look at...

She was fair skinned and she used to embarrass me with her fitness (really).

It's interesting that south Asian manufacturers are interested in marketing the history of local production of European brands, and that the buyers will pay for the name Jawa, or Enfield, apparently in gigantic volume.  I'd rather they built something else and created their own reputations, but that's me.

Only that Enfield in India was for a really long time a genuine place of production of Royal Enfield itself.

Yes, it is Mahindra behind the new Jawa. Nothing in a name much anymore.

I think they'll end up just in India and the vicinity, they are buying lots of bikes and have obviously an appreciation for the classic brands of the past.

I still own this. A friend in Swiebodzin Poland keeps it at his place and I use it when I have to work over there.

Only that Enfield in India was for a really long time a genuine place of production of Royal Enfield itself.

Jawas were also produced in India, but not by Mahindra.  Quoting Wikipedia:

JAWA motorcycles were introduced in India in the 1950s and they have a cult following to this present day. Production was carried out directly in India by Ideal Jawa India Ltd based out of Mysore starting in the early 60s. Earlier models were manufactured in Czechoslovakia and bore the CZ Jawa emblem on the side of the fuel tank. The locally manufactured models always had O within the Jawa emblem. The JAWA 353/04 designated as 'A' Type, Yezdi 250 'B' Type, Jawa 350 type 634 Twin and Yezdi 250 Monarch models are driven to this day in various parts of the country. JAWA and Yezdi bikes, especially the ones with fuel tank paddings and ignition systems on the fuel tank are now collectors items. The company stopped production in 1996. In October 2016,Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), through its subsidiary Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL), signed a licensing deal to launch motorbikes under the JAWA brand name in India and other East Asian countries.

That photo makes me want to travel   For me, motorcycle travel is best done on an ageless workhorse and I've never quite been to Poland.  The closest was Spreewald in Germany, not far from the border.

Well there's something we can agree on!

Why didn't they just continue with the name "Yedzi"? Here's a lovely example for sale on Facebook, equipped to burn alternative fuels.

What's the hump behind the cylinder?  Looks like it's held on with a screw.  Maybe cast alloy but could be plastic.  Gotta be hiding something!

Oh boy, tough Indian hipsters.     Did Portland do some kind of out reach program?

As far as the motos, this will sound harsh, but were Jawas ever good?  When I started riding in the 70s I just remember them as smokey, weak power/brakes, bad suspension and handling, unreliable.  Was there an era where they make some great bikes?

Cover over the throttle body would be my guess. It's not like Guzzi hasn't done the same thing...

Jawas and CZs were fine bikes, primarily used for transportation with some excellent off road competition bikes.

No, the throttle body cover is the shiny thing. I mean below it on the Tranny.

Looks like the starter is on top of the crankcase behind the cylinder.   Shield might be  to make it look a little more finished.

Looks like a cover over the electric starter, designed to look like the cover over the carburetor on the old 2-strokes.

In the blurb it says:
"Premium Italian engineering pairs the elegance of sleek lines and graceful curves with an uncompromisingly robust design".

So, where is the Italian engineering in a Czech bike made in India? :undecided:

Probably be a good bike. Jawa/CZ have been making solid bikes and speedway engines for years.

After looking at the photos for about a half hour I decided that I like it. It looks interesting and I would like to ride one.
The housing on the top of the engine case behind the cylinder houses the turbo-encabulator.
