Title: Stornello temptations ...
Post by: usedtobefast on November 28, 2018, 03:53:05 PM

Craigslist is evil!  Taking a work break ... click on the craiglist icon ... type in guzzi for a search ... and what!? ... a used Stornello with 67 miles on it!!  45 minutes away.  $6300.

Just sitting in a garage feeling all abandoned and everything.  It would be much happier in my garage with the V7 iii Racer and Griso.  I feel I need to rescue that Stornello!

But I bought the new Racer in Feb '18, and the new Griso in Oct '18 (and a 150 mile BMW F800GT in May) ... so my wife has been awesome, cool, and understanding ... not sure I could pull this off.

So ... someone else, please buy this wonderful sad motorcycle and ride it!

LOL.   I too am a member of the "have a cool understanding wife club."    My recent purchases:
I bought a used 2016 BMW R1200RS in November of 2017, a slightly used '17 V7 III Special with 300 miles on it in April, a beautiful '76 R90S in August and a '77 Le Mans less than two weeks after the R90S.

To help fund all this, this year I did sell:
2013 BMW F800GT
2014 V7 Special
2015 Yamaha WR250R
1973 Honda CB350 Four in very nice shape
FIVE Honda CB77 305 Superhawk project bikes

So, I actually reduced the motorcycle count by 5!

We have separate budgets for our hobbies so we dont have to discuss expenses related to those hobbies.  If the money is there, spend it.  If not, don't.  No loans from other budgets allowed without approval.

Sometimes she has eyes my budget when I have sold more than I bought.  But I've slowed way down since my back injury fiasco.

That's more than the shop in Maryland was selling new ones for, and that was a year ago.  Sure is a nice photo though.

I often wonder why everyone doesn't do this rather than hear the "My wife doesn't want me to ... " thing or sentences involving the phrase "kitchen pass" ... ?

Of course, we didn't really get smart until about 25 years ago, so I guess I understand if young folks haven't figured it out yet .   But after a while, it's a bit obvious ... !

I have had my hobby budget for years. in general terms because I don't affect the family budget she doesn't care what I do or don't do. But I've kind of reached critical mass with six motorcycles three cars plus my daily driver :-) And that doesn't mention all the guns she doesn't know about haha.

Long ago we decided to have a joint family budget that we contribute to and everything in addition to that is ours for discretionary spending even back in the day when I was the one making money and she was a stay-at-home mom we ran things that way. We both always had individual accounts for our hobbies and personal spending and agreed to not pressure or influence each other on what we did with it. the only time we have to discuss or agree on spending is when it comes out of the joint account or affects it.

Mainly becomes an issue when we have a big household expense or a vacation she wants to take and I don't/cant contribute as much as she would like (we do everything cash no credit). That's when the cars motorcycles and guns become an issue so it's a strategic SWMBO. Several years ago when I sold my m3 and bought her some nice jewelry she was very happy :-) the rest of it however went into the account that funded my Norge and Stornello purchase... The stornello kind of pushed her over the edge and she made it pretty clear that something had to go.... I understand her point but nothing has gone yet :-). this is one of the side benefits of having a bunch of stuff stored in the garage 3 hours away haha..m it's all about the negotiation :-)

Long story short.....he had a vintage bike with clutch and brake on opposite sides and felt he would have a tough time riding both. The vintage bike was too good to let go so he sold this one. Super cool guy and I really felt comfortable buying from him...the best kind of seller.

Glad to see this post. Im also in the Stornello vs Triumph Scrambler temptation club. Ive found a few leftover Stornellos and many used Scramblers. While the Stornello has less horsepower it is a sharp bike, decisions decisions...

The horse power really won't matter.  You'll learn to use what you have.
I hear that alot about my V7.  Matters not.  I get to the same spot as the rest at just about the same time and love every mile.

Gotta say I’ve always been a prick - I ride motorcycles so if you think you are going to stop that then no deal.

I do the seperate budget thing & the world still turns, sometimes I bail her out like our holiday to Greece earlier in the year but generally if she wants to drag me to an event she’s paying. She is the entertainment coordinator .

Now she’s trained up she don’t mind a cruise on the T3 in return for a lunch outing - no T3, no summer lunches 😂
