The "if I won the lottery" bike fantasies always have to include the proviso ... "Did I win enough to not only buy the bike but also ride and maintain it?"
Probably a mere $100- $125K would suffice to "get" the bike.
You'd have to have another $500K of your winnings invested intelligently to spin off enough lira to keep this sultry, needy Italian supermodel in parts and white-glove service .... !!

If I won the lottery, I could retire, and do a lot more riding.
I'd be much less dismayed by the sunny and warm Monday that frequently follows, or preceeds two days of cold rain.

It's always a choice, isn't it? Use the money to retire and ride your old bike, or buy a Brough-Superior SS100 and ride it on weekends?
I had the same choice about 15 years ago. Buy a nice Vincent Rapide and park it and work on it under a carport and a tarp, or don't buy a bike and build a 30' x 40' shop building and work on my garden-variety bikes inside it?
Or like stay at home happily married, and end up with a nice nest egg and earlier retirement, or go tomcatting around and end up paying alimony and 2 child support payments and be scrambling to make ends meet when you're 70 ... ?
Decisions, decisions ....

I made my decision 40 years ago.. but I *would* look good on either one.

I'll not claim I'd look as good, but if I had the choice between the two 750s and this one ....

I'd take this one. Just something about it ....

I'd take retirement over any bike. There are always more motorcycle but only a limited amount of wake ups.

$75K and reserve not met??? Is that really what they're going for? $100 - 125K???
At that rate it seems more like an investment and garage queen than something I'd ride.
But what the hell - if I won the lottery (someone reminded me I'd have to buy tickets to have a chance) and got at least a couple million, I could afford something like that. But you know, the MV doesn't look that great to me. I think the 1000S is a much prettier bike and is something I'd ride any time I wanted. I love the LM1000 and have no real desire for anything different. For a long time I wanted a Norton Commando, or a ducati (not very badly though), but I think I've finally found the button that turns me on. No real desire to go looking elsewhere. But I do think it would be cool to have a Guzzi 500 single from the 50s or 60s.
I think I'd be much more tempted to upgrade the shop with insulation and a good heating system. And maybe rent a storage place to clean the place out - and then gradually sell off a bunch of junk to make room. Gotta do that anyway, but a bunch of money would sure make the transition easier.
-
I guess Jim should have specified how much he won in the hypothetical lottery win. So, lets says $200 million ($115.7 million cash value) of the Powerball jackpot as of this moment. I'd think that would be more than enough to buy ones' dream bike, pay for maintenance and upkeep, etc., build a nice shop and "live large and in charge" the rest of your days.
-
My personal favorite MV 4 cylinder-as far as riding goes.

Though I think Jim's choice is prettier.

If I win the lottery, it's not about what I ride, it's that I CAN. Hell, give me back my 2 1/2 briggs & Stratton JC Penney, just don't make me go to WORK!!!

If I won the lottery I would want the Moto Guzzi V8 racer replica sold in Italy. 17 were build for sale and are apparently perfect replicas of the original race bikes. Please lord let me win that damn lottery!!

Nick you are so right, I have no complaints or regrets and a lot to be thankful for, 36 + years married, two healthy grown children in stable relationships, a career I love and a hobby that keeps me engaged, I don't need to win a lottery, but ... if I did, after looking after family and friends I would get me an MV!
Probably more like this one though, 1956 125cc 4troke beauty

I somehow keep seeing Guzzi frames and running gear with a different engine when I look at most of those MV's. The exception being the black BWM/Germanic one. They dont look very competent by modern standards. I'm a bit luke warm on them. I think I'd rather have something in a different class, more removed from modern high performance. Maybe the 125cc MV, or.probably a Brough, if I get the billion dollar lottery.

A Patrick Godet (R.I.P.) Egli-Vincent would certainly be on my list...about $85K-$90K :thumb:
Of course, a Brough-Superior, that lovely MV Augusta, the CNW Norton, etc. etc.

Thought provoking... I guess it might be cool to buy back a bit of my youth with a red+black+white CB175, an absolute jewel of a bike. Maybe a CJ360T? To look at though, definitely not to ride, I prefer to remember the handling and brakes of the old CJ through the rose-colored filter of the years gone by. The bikes I have now are all I'll ever need, The Morini 500 Sport is painfully pretty and pretty cool to ride, and of course my Jackal is a great bike, 125,000 miles and the most reliable non-pedal-powered vehicle I've ever owned.
But in the spirit of wish-bikes, I'd like to own one of these for just a little while before I croak:

Why would you want a Scott, Steve? 😄 Actually, I’ve always been a fan of the Flying Squirrel, also. That water cooled stroker was way ahead of its time.

Henderson KL... or a Crocker....Or just give me a JAP 1000 cc OHV engine and I'll build a bike around it.. If the lottery win was 10's of millions after taxes I would give a lot to people with sick kids...

‘Wow’
The 350S is the only classic MV one I could afford, there are loads of them for sale in the £5000-£6000 mark.
They are so pretty but I never read a single good review...
i've got one of those 350 MV austa ,
nice little bike , having said that , my morini 350 sport has better performance with a decent parts availibility....
i have been looking for one of these, a 125 sport
completely impractical because a adult hardly fits on it.
but it is as close as you can get to a full size toy...

Well, you have to remember these are all toys.. Boys without toys are just dull boys. That 125 would be a *fine* toy..

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days. I would need a small win to do this, many wouldn't though.
I'd find the best Rosso Corsa 1200 Sport 8V I could, leave it with Mr Roper for a nut and bolt strip down and rebuild then have it Beetle mapped. Fit some bags and leave home for as long as the money lasted.

QUOTE: I asked the mechanic at victory motorcycle ( http://victorymotorcycleslondon.co.uk ) why he liked Suzuki T500 so much, he pointed at the Scott behind the counter and said ‘it was the only thing that felt like a Scott’
A few years ago, I helped a friend sell his "mint" 1973 Suzuki Titan 500. It went to the UK with a broker....$2500...I should have bought it! :thumb:

One of my duties as care taker of a collection of bikes is to exercise them a couple time a year. One of my favorites but, most nerve racking to ride is this
(https://i.ibb.co/C08TQqb/Joe-s-MV.jpg) (https://ibb.co/C08TQqb)
It runs and rides beautifully but, the tires are original, as is the paint. If anything happened to it, it would be a disaster.

It's a tough job.. but somebody's gotta do it. I met a guy in SoCal that had your job. In the back of an unassuming strip mall, there was a whole line of MVs of every sort. An Indy car. Original Ford GT (said it was almost too hot to take to cruise night) A couple of Rolls, you get the picture.. No, I didn't take any. (pictures, that is)

With the runaway success of "Johnathon Livingston Seagull," Richard Bach suddenly became wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
He bought every airplane he ever had lusted over.
Eventually, he had to hire mechanics to keep them running.
Then, he had to hire pilots to keep them exercised.
Then, he realized there was no point in all that.
I think that is a good point.

Maybe it's one of those things you have to do, one of those itches that have to be scratched, in order to realize that it might be sort of pointless after all.
But you'd be always wondering what it was like if you DIDN'T do it! So no harm done, he learned something about life, and some people had some good-paying gigs in the meantime, working for him ....

I pretty much have them all.
'74 Aermacchi/H-D Sprint 350
'71 Norton Commando 750 Fastback
'97 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport i
The lotto would only speed up their completion.
And I'd have to build a tube-frame Buell with a Shovelhead Sportster motor in it, just because there's nobody on the planet that wouldn't get a poke in the eye with it.
