Title: Round barrel head tuning /porting
Post by: Luka61 on December 25, 2018, 05:29:44 AM
Just seen the interview with Bill finnegan about tuning old round barrel heads. Iam interested to find out more about his idea of 'tumble porting', he describes it as raising the floor of the inlet tract by 6-7mm to create a D shape inlet port. Would really like to find out more about this and if anyone has tried doing it or has any clues to how it could be done?
Or, is there an outside chance that someone knows how to contact Bill finnegan so I can send my heads to him for tuning?

Bill is still about, Melbourne Australia I believe.

He recently was at an MCGOV event, maybe try through them? Probably some members here are connected.

Looks to me like a snake oil salesman. Consider this claim about Aprilia velocity stacks the site offers:

Quote
provide approximately 10% torque increase throughout the rev range, at the expense of only 1 horsepower from the peak figure.

Since horsepower is a constant multiple of torque times rpm, peak horsepower would have to increase by "approximately 10%" if the torque representation were true. The claim is a mathematical impossibility and apparently a lie intended to fool potential customers who don't know better. Such customers are the target, I surmise. This easy-to-detect absurdity makes me doubt any claims for other products or services the site offers.

My feeling is don't screw up a perfectly designed round head for what it is and was intended to be. If'n you want power and speed, I understand there are still a few of the soon to be fazed out Hayabusas about.

The concept isnt just Guzzi. its been around for many years in the auto world..  So many people just wanted to hog the ports out, but some work showed that working on the transitions really help keep the mixtures in suspension..  The improvement at lower speeds, is really pretty huge.. not just HP, but all around driveabilty. It is done with a lot of the old huge ported heads used during the muscle car era, and really improves them a lot.

I finally got around to getting gilardonis on my 850T. while the motor was apart, the valves were replaced and my buddy ported and polished the heads.

what is a 16 line poem called (https://poetandpoem.com/20-lines)

Compression was bumped up with thinner head and base gaskets.
I already had a megacycle X-9 ( Norris s) cam and 36 delortos.
There's a bit more pull and grunt, but nothing dramatic. If you are taking the heads off for some reason, then go for it. I wouldn't remove the heads just for a port job.
