Title: CARC Starters
Post by: guzzisteve on January 09, 2019, 08:29:32 PM
OK, So what are the newer bike guys replacing the Chinese Bosch starters with? Valeo's? Enduralast? Mitsubishi (Motorad Lektric, Rick Jones)?
Got a call, It's stuck in the engaged position. I have to go pull it yet.

I've had no problems with the Chinese starters Steve. The Valeos used to be a nightmare but I believe they're better nowadays.

When the starter on my B11 died it was replaced with a Chinese one and it has been fine. The company I bought it from specialized in starters and told me that they all come from China so you may not have a choice anyway!

I purchased the Motorad Lektric, Rick Jones starter about '06 or '07. Hasn't failed as of yet and the best part is were it to fail on the road you can pick up a new motor replacement at most auto parts store. Remove the old motor from his adapter and install the new one.

The problem in fitting may be where the power wire on solenoid post almost touches the frame. They used Valeo on B11 last, the rest are Chinese Bosch. This is a Stelvio and stock starter almost touches.

I might be wrong but I thought most auto starters rotated in the opposite direction
I believe the motors rotate the same way but the starters approach the ring gear from opposite ends.
They can always be reversed of course but not so easily.

Well, MG Cycle comes through again, called back w/measurements to clear frame for the Valeo. No more Chinese junk on this Stelvio.
