On my 03 hydro motor, I pulled the fuel injection and put on a pair of 36mm pumpers. Bike runs great but get a feeling that the ignition advance could be improved. Now I don't have the TPS anymore and not sure if that's directly involved with the ignition.
All I want is to program the ECU to follow an older points distributor advance curve based on RPM only.
I am willing to pay a decent sum to get this done!

I'll try not to be gleefully brusque.
Why, oh,why would you do such a thing? Never mind, I don't want to know...
Without the TPS, the ignition curve is currently going from 7° at idle, to 46° at max RPM. Hardly ideal.
I will relent this once and tweak the ignition map to be more 'nice' for you. You will, of course, need the GuzziDiag 15x Writer & cables.

Jefferies out of Australia did a lot of aftermarket work on the 15M ECU. I'm currently running one of his MyECU products and it's great.
But ... your combo sounds a little weird.
Anyway, just putting this out as another option.

Oh my , what is the figure at 4K RPMs Mark ?

Oh my , what is the figure at 4K RPMs Mark ?
It depends which map you're using. I used the extreme of the Cali Special. At 4000 it's 45°. For the EV, it's 27°.
These are the numbers I would use, as a first try:
RPM Advance
7200 36.0
6600 34.0
6000 31.5
5000 29.5
4500 28.0
4000 27.0
3500 23.0
3000 20.0
2700 18.0
2400 15.0
2100 14.0
1800 12.5
1500 10.5
1350 9.5
1050 7.0
900 12.0

Interesting that the advance figures are so different. I'd always assumed that all the solid lifter Cali's would be the same.
Anyway, when I have a bit of time and it's cooled down a bit I've got to do the final fix on my Hydro then I'm hoping Mark will have a play with the map for that. The Hydro is such a lovely motor but I'm sure it could be made more lovely!

Well, I have had many an ECU reflashed by several people and a variety of EV, Stone, etc. and the fuel economy always sucked. I took a 98 EV motor, used the same carbs and put ignition points in it and never once got under 50 mpg. Never a burp or hiccup. Two three twists, no choke, it fires up and can ride it within 30 seconds smooth as silk.
Now on the Ti, add poor mileage and a small tank. I put carbs on it, mileage instantly better and I can fit an old Tonti tank that holds six gallons, less demand on the charging system so the electric gear is fine in the freezing temps.
It just seems like the ignition is a tad retarded. If I had points, I'd advance a bit and it would be fine.
Now even with low octane regular, no matter how I lug it I can't get any pinging whatsoever.
It seems what you are suggesting would be less advance than a stock ECU. Maybe I am missing something.
I did pull the TPS off the throttle body and plugged it in. At idle or 3000 rpm, no matter where I turn the dial in it, it changes nothing in rpm or how it revs up.

Import your map into Tuner Pro and set the advance for the same value at all throttle openings for the value of a tonti distributor ignition curve for each RPM level.
I may have a map where this has already been done. It will take me a little while to look for it. It may be on a computer that I do not have access to at this moment.
I will send it to you when I find it.

Did you ask me for a map? Most map 'experts' simply pour more fuel in, thinking EFI 'runs lean from the factory'. Complete BS.
If your TPS doesn't cause any affect, then it's either buggered or you have some other problem. If you want more advance, I can do whatever you want. Or, as antmanbee says, use TunerPro and DIY.

If you were really creative, you might be able to put a potentiometer in place of the TPS. Then put in a custom map, that you could choose from a couple of advance curves by tweaking the pot. Pretty sure the maps would allow that, but I didn't look.
But more interesting, why would injectors be that much more fuel hungry.

Faulty TPS perhaps?
-
first things first, do you have cables for guzzidiag? With that, you can see what the ecu is doing, with ignition, and also see if the tps works. Next step is to alter the ignition table.
-
At the risk of incurring further wrath, I did the exact same thing to my Cali, pulled off the injectors and put on a couple of 40 dellorto pumpers.
I used guzzidiag to program a map that replicated an old points advance curve, I think I based it on the old Lemans distributor advance... great fuel economy and no pinging. :thumb:
To the OP, I can gladly try and dig out the old map for you but I won't have access to my old computer until next week
-
Antmanbee logged on remotely to my laptop and walked me through the basics. I get it now. I will do what Lazlo has done to start.
I have a cable set-up but ordered the "official" cable.
Not in a hurry now that I understand it. Will donate accordingly once I try it out.
Thanks to all!

I'm enjoying this thread, good stuff here - is there a source where one can get the advance curves for different models? No luck in Guzziology...
-
Not a collection in 1 place. I have collected Bins from all sorts of places. The stuff w/separate chips is skimpy.
-
The V11 Lemans website formerly had lots of maps posted for MyECU system, and the MyECU website has a section for maps too.

Trying to get mine to start better, cutting back the fuel in prime & crank. Set with stock ignition stops at 36* though. I've been getting 50mpg.
-
You mean 36º ?
-
yes, I can't find the little circle on the keyboard.
Starts better than ever now cold or hot.
