Just got her from my favorite dealer, Enzo @ Cadre!
Yep trailered her home in the horrible weather but she’s warm and dry in the garage now.

Looks like a great basic motorcycle, and even though they're 21 years old now (incredible thought), they're still held up as a Guzzi icon and ridden all over the world.
What's the plan for it? Ride it as is and strap a bedroll to it Bronson-style? Minimal baggage? Load it down like a rented mule with 40L bags? I'm sure it'll be a great ride no matter what ....

I've got the 40L HB bags on my '98.
It's red and white, the faster color. :grin:
It's a great all around motorcycle. It looks like a cruiser and handles like a standard. Has a good power curve, don't lug it and keep the rpms up.
The linked brakes work seamlessly. The brake pads wear on the inside, so inspect them carefully.
It's a good idea keep the fuses, relays and electrical connectors clean. And replace the electrical petcock with a manual one.
It takes the heel shifter to up-shift, the toe to down-shift.
There are probably more '98 Guzzi EVs on the board than any other Guzzi model.

I've got the two tone blue paint on mine. Great for the Alps and the Autobahn!
I'vegot a Corbin seat on it and I have an original. I would prefer a police style solo seat!

Yeah, the seat can be a PITA. :laugh:
I have a Rich Maud seat, don't think he's still making them.
Problem is the seat pan is notched for the P-8 computer.
Some have gone to the later, smaller computer and eliminated the notch in the pan.
Winter is here, you have time to look into it.

Been enjoying it for 30K miles so far.
Certainly the most bike for the buck on the used market.
No idea why the V11EV is so undervalued but it sure worked in my favor. Paid less for this machine as a good runner than I did for a long dead T3 (another truly enjoyable MG).

Check the routing of all hoses and wires under the tank and on top of the block. There are some areas there prone to chafing fuel lines and HT Plug Wires.
If you are going to work on the machine you might want to remove the charcoal canisters and associated 12 feet of unnecessary tubing to allow easier access to the necessary parts under the tank.

WHY? I put a quarter million plus miles on '98 EV's and never had a problem with the petcock.
The hand grips will wear out at 125K. Maybe because my hands seldom see gloves or hand lotion. Oh, and the Valeo starter will crap out at 145K. Want more horror stories?

Looks like my EV. Great thumper of a motor. Definitely get rid of the carbon canisters and the associated plumbing. If the rear chrome pieces are pitted, take them off. I think the bike looks cleaner. Enjoy

It’s had a good going over and the fuel cocks are manuals.
Maybe I’ll remove the charcoal can etc., I’ll search for a thread on that.
Come on Spring!!!! Or at least a 45 degree day with some sun.

Yup, probably more +100,000 mile 98EV's than any other model ('cep't maybe Y2K Jackals). The highest mileage examples are the unmolested ones. Don't change anything without good reason. Just ride it and fix whatever breaks.

We have two at 100K each.
If the ridge in the seat pan is killing your butt, there are solutions. You can downsize the battery to an Odyssey 680, then move the computer into the battery space, then cut away the stupid ridge in the seat pan and have someone redo the foam and cover. We did all this to Regina's HDM.
You may find pulsing in the front brakes and think the discs are warped. They are not. The buttons are too tight and too dirty. The buttons can be spun and cleaned and the brakes back to normal feel until they get dirty again.
Headlamp relay kit helps brighten up the headlamp.
Watch out for bad routing of the right cylinder spark plug wire. It may chafe on the back side of the cylinder.
You will eventually have a charging failure. It is the regulator and needs replacement from EME.
Whenever you have the tank off be sure to test the fuel neck float drain which sticks out below. The drain gets dirty and clogged. Thereafter rain and wash water will gather in the fuel cap moat and work into the tank and start rusting things up.
Watch for strange oil leak from the hidden o-ring under the alternator.
Watch for strange oil leak from the 'distributor' blanking plate.
Watch for strange oil leak from the "S" breather hose between the cylinders.
Watch for cracks and fuel leakage from the 3-hoses between the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel injectors.

You know thats funny.. I was really looking for a more sporty MG myself, but as I was searching the only ones that kept popping up in my searching was all the Cali models... If there were any others they were way more pricy... or just too darn far away... So here I am enjoying my 02 stone metal!!

Thanks to all of you for your gracious comments and helpful maintenance tips.
Haven’t been able to ride it due to subzero weather but this weekend is looking good.
Btw, I have the touring screen and saddleman side bags for her too.

I'm also a new member of the EV club, newest big block (had a 750 Breva for a while) Guzzi I ever bought. I am bring it back to life after 8 years being off the road. Ron took really good care of the bike, paint looks like new.

Warm here in Florida. Took my 98 EV Hotdog and Mustard out for a jaunt. Ran like new/ looks like new. Best motorcycle I've ever owned. Has 130,000 miles on it. Bought it when I turned 50. I'm 71 now. EV is one of Guzzy's best!

Here are things I’ve noticed and been told;
Don’t lug it, 3k +, not sure I like this about her
Fighting some head buffeting with OEM touring screen, put lip on, not much help
Trying to get used to the brake lever up so high while 2 up riding
And the seat......oh well
Other usual Guzzi “character” traits with motor and clutch noise.
It’s a great bike just don’t know if it’s long for me since it’s our 2 up ride now.

Don't be concerned about the 3k thing. It will run great no matter how you rev it. When my wife is on the back I operate it like a Buick. When putting along looking into the field and woods the revs are quite often around 2.5k. I have moped along for miles in first gear just above idle. When the road is wide open ahead take her up to 6k and you will be up to 70 with gears to spare
https://www.clearviewshields.com/shop/moto-guzzi/ offers a 21 inch screen if you have the fairing I think you have. I ordered one but it hasn't shipped yet so I but can't say if the extra 3 inches will be perfect, but the 18 inch oem is definitely design for short body people, chin level.

Hey inditx.......as far as the brake level is concerned (I assume your talking about the rear brake pedal) there is a little nub on the frame rail that is there for you to rest your heal on while using your toes to apply the brake. It took me awhile to get use to it, but once I did it works great.
And the stock seat......I got rid of mine after about 2 months of ownership and bought a Corbin. Love it.

I’ve got to get a Corbin!! The neds seat with airhawk on top is “ ok” but the Corbin is taller too to stretch out the legs. IMHO the seat is the worst thing about the EV with big computer

I have a Corbin on mine and like it! Also, the Swanee Aero Foil fairing/windshield combo is perfect for me at a hair under 6'.

One of the best bikes ever built. I had one just like yours. Put almost 90,000 miles on it. The last 20,000 miles were put on with a salvage title after I "totaled" it in 2003. I still miss the bike and would gobble up another someday if the right deal rolled around.

Patrick alerted me to the problem with the fuel filler moat drain, it can lead to a rust plugged fuel filter if the bike is left outside.
Why did I ever sell my 98, I must have been crazy.

Mine has been great. Yours looks like it has had some tender loving care through the years.
Good advice given can only add a couple ramblings.
There were a couple recalls. One is a throttle return cable added. If done you'll have two cables at the throttle.
The rear wheel was also recalled. A plate was added on the new one to catch spoke nipples if they broke from getting into the rear drive. https://www.webbikeworld.com/moto-guzzi-recalls/
Have replaced the voltage regulator as previously mentioned and an oil pressure sensor.
Every once in awhile inspect the oil delivery hoses from the cylinder heads to the front of the engine. Had one split on me. Was able to do roadside repair to get home and replaced with newer improved version.
If not mentioned every other blue moon pull the sensor by the right throttle body and wipe off. It's magnetic and runs dry catching small debris off the flywheel.
+1 on Lee's bushings. Have had them on for over 15 yrs. or so.
