We're giving this another try. You may recall we scheduled this for the same weekend last year. It was coming together really well, we were pretty excited, lot's of interest, and...one week prior to the event my son found himself in a coma in a Chicago Hospital. Even despite that significant event, I felt bad cancelling, but had to, clearly.
Well here we are. My son rebounded from that event pretty well, btw. And we'd like to give this another go.
The local Indy Ton-Up club will be having an event in the city that weekend, and that will serve as a draw/distraction to build our event around. I've got a very large place, well suited to camping and revelry at the far NW extreme of the city limits. Room for tents, bikes, the odd pop up or two. Several of the Indiana crew will be in service, manning grills, coffee pots, fire pits, tire swings and the like.
If you are on Facebook, there is an event page where you can note your intention and keep posted. This thread will be treated similarly.
come one, come all. We'd love to have you.

these photos show the setting pretty well. There outta be lots of room to stretch out. The Big Eagle Creek runs through my property and some say the fishing is pretty good.

Jeff knows more than I do Chuck, but it sounds like the same Rockers Reunion gig as in years past. Apparently it's the 'sponsorship' that is a hot potato. Jeff talked to whoever is heading it up before we pulled the trigger on this. He was assured it was a go, so we in turn decided the N-A-R was a go.

Cool. :thumb:

Well we can try it again. Might have us to bring some of their favorite brews and or bourbon.

As a Ton Up member, I'll tell you what I know. The Ton Up Club will be arranging a ride on June 1 that will terminate at The Cannon Ball Brewing Company off of 17th and Bellefontaine in Indy. We're calling it "The Rocker's Run." A few years back, we passed the "Rocker's Reunion" show along to some motivated individuals who were able to maintain what the club could no longer deliver. It is now simply known as "The Reunion." As a club, we are looking to get back to something simple with more of a focus on riding and having fun. I'm picturing it to be more like a gathering at The Steer Inn for VinMoto. I spoke with one of the organizers of the Reunion show, and they are not ready to release a date at this time. With what I'm guessing as your focus being more about getting together with fellow Guzzi enthusiasts and doing some riding, I think "The Rocker's Run" could play well with your expectations. I'd love to camp at your place, Kip, if I could.

What's not to like about a brewery called Cannonball? :thumb: We are sort of beer geeks, and haven't heard of this one. There are *many* good breweries popping up in the Indy area..

And this place is right across the street.

During the MotoGP season, Cannonball televises the races on Sunday. Lots of folks show up on their Ducatis.

What fortunate timing!

You are most welcome Jim, regardless of ride.
Saw a couple of your Ton Up Brethren at the Indy Motorcycle Expo, and that was the story. I guess it was Udo that told Jeff the 1st was the date. Either way, the N-A-R is on, and gaining momentum.
Great dog :thumb:
Brodie is an excellent host, and will protect all attendees from massive and threatening Fox Squirrels that terrorize our area. be prepared to toss a tennis ball or two as compensation.

Oh, good. You got to meet Udo... although I imagine you may have run into him before. He's the official Ton-Up Indy cat herder!

Nope, I may have in the past, but he wasn't there Saturday. Sean and Dave were. Jeff spoke with Udo separately. I was just told he was the source of the affirmative vote.

Bumping this TTT
Next Thursday a couple will roll in, Friday, few more. Saturday outta be a hoot, and we've been invited to participate in the local Ton Up clubs Vintage ride. An 80 miler that ends at Cannon Ball Brewing, a Moto centric establishment in central Indy. By Moto centric I mean Moto GP, always on the tele, and not the other social Biking tribe we all know and love.
Separately, for those not wanting to battle any degree of urban madness, we're talking about some Indiana country touring west of Indianapolis to Newport In. Covered bridges and whatnot.
Hope any of ya'll can make it.

Putting in my 'Honey do' hours this weekend to get over there for Friday night, camp & tall tales around the campfire & into Saturday.
Riding the Griso with good tyres on it so Chuck doesn't have to loan me the Scura again :
Looking forward to it

Hey Chuck, I'm out of Indianapolis, riding the Griso.
We met in Lebanon last club meeting.
-
Ahh, you're Ratso.. :thumb:
-
Kip, we have a big coffee pot. Want us to bring it? We can go to Costco and get mondo stuff for cheap. (Guzzi content) Need labor?
If you already have all this covered.. nevermind.
(another thinly disguised bump to the top. Time is getting short..)
-
Hey Chuck, Got a industrial sized Coffee pot ready to go. Thanks for the offer.
gonna hit up your email outside of here.
To all, first arrivals will start rollin' in thursday afternoon. So the sippin' starts then.

Kip got caught up in some w ww work related stuff, so Dorcia and I made a Costco run and picked up enough food, etc. to feed the multitudes tonight and tomorrow. Depending on how many show up, Kip may have to make another run.
He's out mowing as we speak. The grounds are fine. :thumb:
The weather looks decent to me. It'll probably rain Saturday night. Travel weather coming and going should be ok.
Looking fwd to seeing y'all.. :boozing:
-
Hoo wee! Now, that was some rain. I thought I'd run back to Kips and see who had shown up. The wx radar said there was a little cell that might be an issue, but no big deal, really. I've been Jonesing for a Scura ride, so took it. The only problem is no luggage, so I didn't take my rain pants or overgloves.
You can see where this is heading.
To make a long story short, cars were on the side of the road with their flashers going. The good news? The SIDI boots that I'd bought at the Cedar Vale auction for maybe 12 dollars (Guzzi content) are completely waterproof. :thumb:  The bad news is my Olympia jacket which I've had in rain several times isn't. Maybe it needs a bath in Nikwax?
Oh, well.. the Mighty Scura sloughed it off like the lady she is. My Scura Jones is satisfied. Tomorrow is another day.
-
^^^Glad those boots worked out , kinda made the trio to Cedar Vale worth , right Chuckie ?
Tell those Indiana folks hello .

Yeah, those boots were the bargain of the century. I'll give the Indiana (and Kentucky and Tennessee) folks your best.

... The good news? The SIDI boots that I'd bought at the Cedar Vale auction for maybe 12 dollars (Guzzi content) are completely waterproof.....
Twelve bucks?? Ha! In true Guzzi fashion, you got them for something like five or eight dollars. Just think how good you'd feel if you had bought those simply wonderful Aerostitch Combat Lites.
I considered coming up to this get-together but this weekend is our granddaughter's high school graduation. Leaving the area is a complete no-no. Have fun and I hope the weather gets better.

Hooo daddy, did we get some rain! Two separate episode of hail thrown in to the torrents! That should be it for the weekend. I’m reminded that las Sunday, for the Indy 500, between 8am and 8 pm there was a forecast for only 1 hour WITHOUT rain. We got none! Zip. Zero. Nada. Not a single drop all day. I’m thinking the rest of the weekend will be likewise!
Sorry you can’t make it Chuck. Pretty special event you’re having however.
My buddy Jeff , he of the ratted out convert hack, came around with his 3 yr old and hopped on the mower. His son slept in his arms for over an hour while he mowed. He didn’t want to stop and disturb him. Good kid.

Uhh, yeah. It was the hardest rain I've ridden in for years.

Again, I didn't melt.

Attending rallies should require a little *adventure*, otherwise you should just sit at home and watch TV , right Chuckie ?

I've never been on a motorcycle thinking I sure wish I was in the car.. <shrug>
Sunny and mild today. I have the G5 loaded with rain gear, etc.  Kip has a huge screen porch if worse comes to worse.. come one, come all.

I didn't take many pictures, but a good time was had by all, as nearly as I can tell..
Getting the fire going in Kip's awesome portable fire pit made from the end of a big propane tank..

How many (nota) rallies can you say you've been to with 2 guys under 30 with bikes? That weren't willed to them?  Even had a motocrosser that wasn't a great grand kid..

Several of the Indiana contingent were working the Ton Up club ride.. more were parked around the back of the Cannonball brewery.. a kool moto themed place with excellent beer. I'm told.. :boozing:

Before everyone left, we had to line up the 3 (!) G5s and get a picture.
Front to back, Austin, An unknown handsome guy in the middle, and Jimmy.

What's not to like about kids, dawgs, frisbees, and Guzzis?
For a first time, it went pretty smoothly. Special thanks to Mary Thompson, my sweetie Dorcia, Jeff for dinner Friday night, and Austin who manned (peopled?) the grill Saturday night, and did burgers, dawgs, and his marinated pork belly.
Many probably didn't come because of the horrible weather we've been having and a not too good forecast. The weather was perfect. Like the Turnip farmer sez, "If you watch the weather channel, you'll never go anywhere."
Still, we had people from Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky all weekend.
Thanks, Kip! It was a good time.. :thumb:
-
Yes, indeed! Big thanks to Kip for hosting in such a beautiful setting. I wish I could have spent more time out there and met some more of you. I would also like to thank those who were able to make it out to Cannonball Brewing for the gathering after Ton-Up Indy's Rockers Run ride. We had maybe 65 riders, total, with one mechanical DNF and 1 crash related DNF. The rider who crashed was okay, with minor damage to her Hinckley Bonneville. One tough cookie!
-
Kip, Thanks again for putting on such a great event. Heard from Craig. he made it home with no problems, even with the burtal Indy traffic( every major highway is under construction ). Todd and I had a great time. :thumb:
-
Great to see you there, John.. and it's obvious Todd has been assimilated to the 1100 sport cult.
Oh, forgot.. Kip fixed STEEL CUT OATS both mornings. (WildGuzzi content)  Several had never had them and were impressed with the taste and texture. Dorcia and I brought blueberries and red raspberries to add to them. Gives a fella the strength to get up and do what needs to be done.. :boozing:

first off, ya'll are most welcome. Despite life's best efforts to derail this event, it went off better than I could have hoped as Chuck has ably pointed out.
Chuck acted as Indiana ambassador welcoming the Kentucky/fuel injected contingent
(https://i.imgur.com/Idxh9JZ.png)
We had people powered Hacks to go along with combustion powered hacks
(https://i.imgur.com/1iTJJ0q.png)
generally a pretty good gaggle of Geese
(https://i.imgur.com/oedjS3w.png)
of course the aforementioned G5 Trio
(https://i.imgur.com/Hj8SVjj.png)
Plenty of lodging space for campers
(https://i.imgur.com/ssXgXm7.png)
and tents
(https://i.imgur.com/EyjgzTW.png)
The weekend really kicked into gear when Dorcia told me act as consultant only and get the hell out of the way and let her and Mary handle meal prep/organization. Really, they made the weekend.
The ample screened porch served admirably as mess hall. Reports were that the coffee was even palatable. Citronella discouraged the vermin the screen couldn't stop.
Saturday night our ranks swelled as people from the Ton Up event rolled in, complete with kids, dirt bikes, and even gifts for the host!
No gathering would be complete without a bit of wrenching...here Chuck and John hunt for electrical gremlins...
It was a great time. I was exhausted but in the best possible way. Thanks a ton to those who came.
May have to hang the shingle again next year...

Thanks Kip for having us over, wish I could have stayed longer.
Don't forget there were 2 Griso's there, which counts as a Griso rally by my standard

Well, sure, Dusty. We need to wave the WG flag as much as possible. :thumb:

Hate we missed it, wasn't weather concerns here. Just not enough ours in the weekend. Glad it all went well, see you all in Kentucky in September.
