Title: NGC - it is really windy tonight
Post by: ohiorider on February 24, 2019, 07:03:02 PM
Scary stuff.  I'm in NE Ohio, and we're not flooding, but the wind that's gone on all day and forecast to go on until tomorrow morning is unnerving.  Every time we have high winds like today. I think 'why didn't I have a couple of trees close to the house cut down?'  But I love the trees in the spring and summer, and am reluctant to remove them.

We got that yesterday...of course, I picked THAT day to do car maintanence...I'm not kidding, I had to plan every move carefully, 'cause the wind gusts were strong enough to blow tools around...

Steady 40 MPH South wind most of the day here yesterday , the large low pressure area generating these winds is moving East . Hang in Bob .

Hey Bob,     I think everybody is getting the big winds now.

With the winds and freezing rain here over night, my power was out until noon today.

I saw a map today south/west of me in your general direction showing the height of the waves on Lake Ontario,,, at least half of the lake in the middle, showed waves over 30 ft high.

Hopefully you're on relatively dry high ground in Ohio.

I'm hunkering down until it blows through.

     safe travels take care

     Kelly

The wind blew down the street light pole by my house yesterday. Fire department came and moved it off the road. Light company hauled it away. Windy mofo.

Waiting for high winds here in upstate NY.

Unusual high winds here yesterday, last night and today here halfway between Rochester and the Finger Lakes...Gusts to maybe 50 mph or so.. The electrical power goes out for a bit, comes back on and blinks off for a few seconds now and then, typical rural power outage...20F, a little sno and a nasty wind chill..

Fifteen of us had a big meal at Moto Grappa Saturday night, pulled pork tacos, refried beans, with all the trimmings and sides and many cases of liquid refreshment, and afterwards all bunked down on various couches and floor spaces for the night.

You don't know what windy IS .... !      A hurricane blowing through the house would have been a blessing ...

These high wind days were tough on my first wife. When she was 18 she was in her parent's house when a tornado took the roof and two outer walls. She was not hurt but it shook her to the core. Even in her 40s she would turn into a high anxiety mess when the wind blew strong.

SE Va. we had the high winds hit here yesterday evening and thru the night. Causing lots of local power outages, though we're OK where we are. (Nature seems to know I have a genset AND a solar system charging some golf cart batteries hooked to an inverter that I can use as back up power. Once you have two back ups, the number of power outages seems to go down.)

Winds just died down in the last hour. It was howling this morning. This morning early I got a call from my next door neighbor asking if I'd seen her American flag she flies from her porch. I told her I hadn't been out yet, but I'd be happy to look around when I walked my dog shortly. She asked me if mine was missing too. I told her I took it down yesterday evening as  the winds picked up because I didn't want it shredded. And if it had blown off our porch in a rolled up state, I'd be very impressed.

I looked around as I walked my dog right after that. She still had the bottom half of her flag pole in the holder. Just the top half and flag were missing. My theory is that it blew out into the street and a neighbor saw it laying there on their way to work and "rescued" it to dispose of it properly.

Very glad it calmed down!

Scary but natures way of thinning and pruning and producing a hood supply of future firewood.

Lost a weeping willow that my wife and I planted about fifteen years ago.  It couldn't've picked a better spot to fall... no damage.  I am ready to fire up the chainsaw!

It was funny watching a Flicker grimly hanging onto the suet feeder yesterday.  It must have felt like riding a tiltawhirl..

We just had 36 hours of sustained 40mph winds with gusts to 75.  Power out for 24 hours.
Thank goodness for good scotch.

Blew like stink all Sunday night and yesterday. I get 100 yards from my house on my way home from work yesterday and there's a tree leaning on the powerlines. Mrs. larrys said the power went out around 3:30. Tree trimmer crew showed up at 6:00, power company at 7:30, power restored at 9:30. Had the wood stove going, no worries.

I went riding in it Saturday west of town in the plains and it just blew my little bike around.  I was headed down the Hefner Parkway but it was difficult enough just ride down May Ave.  I finally called it quits.
