Title: WTB side racks for Thermos type panniers T3/G5/Convert
Post by: Perazzimx14 on February 28, 2019, 07:48:13 AM
Anybody have a set of usable pannier racks for a SP1000? Ideally want to mount some Pelican cases I already have. Not really interested in a rear rack if its a combo deal that'd be okay. Rusty and crusty is okay as long as they are not bent or damaged.

Thanks,

P-14

AFAIK only the Krauser setups were available for the SP in ready to bolt on form.  I used this setup and modded for my  SPNT

I've had HB racks that fit a Convert, I donT think I modded them from something else but I guess it's possible..

You have fabrication skills and tools?   Why not just make some?

I have a pair of H-B racks from a Breva 750 that I was going to modify for the Morini. Won't be doing that now, so if you're interested in them for "raw material", let me know.

In a post a while back Charlie pointed out that the T3/G5/Vert brackets for the thermos bags  work and I started based on that, but since my SPNT was set up in earlier  style ( LM footrests and pedals. upswept mufflers) I had to mod those brackets in order to get the bags to fit higher and further back.

Thanks. Changed my title to reflect.

True but every time I set out to do something like this it only cost me 3 or 4x as much money verses buying ready made

Was there something wrong with the eBay rack setup that was referenced in the second post above? It went for less than $60 with shipping and met the crusty and rusty criteria. Or perhaps it exceeded in the crusty, rusty department.

I ask because I have a nicer set that I could offer, but I'd look to get about $100-125 with shipping. PM if interested. For reference, I'd say mine are as good, or better, than this set:

Anybody know who made this rack/pannier system? This is even more ideal than the Thermos type racks.

Krauser. Used to have a bunch of that junk laying around, got rid of it years ago.

After looking at the SP with upswept pipes I think I am going to scrap the ide of putting hard panniers on it. Might just go with a rear rack and a tail bag.

Yes that style would be workable

You might contact the seller and ask for dimensions. I recall putting some BMW bags on a Tonti framed bike with minor bending and making small stub brackets.  :afro:  The guy is accepting offers.

Yesterday  I got the SP tagged and insured so I'm now legal to ride. Going to get some miles on it before put anymore money into it to see if its a keeper.
