Title: Tonights Dinner
Post by: Perazzimx14 on March 02, 2019, 02:09:55 PM
Last week a buddy called telling me he got a bunch of nice beef fillets and was I interested getting together for dinner. Answer, Yes!

So he's bringing the steaks and I'm taking care of the rest.

To Start we are having burshetta topped with roasted red pepper and spreadable swiss cheese.

Next onto Martini's with jalapeno stuffed olives and salad with blue cheese dressing. And by martini I don't mean any of the of the metrosexual appletini, chocolatetini, dirty-tini or any drink made with vodka and served in a Martini glass. A martini is 2 to 3 ounces of chilled gin in a Martini glass garnished with 2 olives. Nothing more nothing less. Just like Churchill I am okay with a bottle of vermoth in the room at the same time but I prefer it to be on the otherside.

Main course:

Cabrinet wine
Beef fillet topped with gorgonzola cheese
Gulf shrimp with garlic oil and smoked paprika sauce.
Baked potato w/ sour cream and chives
Crab cakes (made w/o mayo)
Baked asparagus with parm cheese

Here's a few pic's of the shrimp getting ready for 30 minute 135 degree Sous Vide bath

What kind of Gin? London Dry or Genever ? I always use Vermouth to rinse the glass and prefer a lemon twist to the olive.
I bartended for most of two decades, and iut drove me nuts when someone would order a glass of olive juice mixed with vodka.

Tarragon Cod over a bed of Bok Choy & bacon. Simple, low carb and calories. No booze..  Trying to get off my Winter weight gain.

Hendrick's.

Sorry, Hendricks is not to my liking.

Tonight was Plymouth Gin. Would like  to source some "Navy" strength".  If I had to choose one it'd be me and the Queen Mum's favorite, Boodles. Followed  by Bombay sapphire followed my Beefeater. Buddy brought me a bottle of Boodles Mulberry Gin. Not a Martini gin but OMG is it good with tonic and a squirt of lime.

Bombay Sapphire for me.

The rest of the menu I can live with.

I'm not a huge gin drinker, but Leyden Dry is a good one. Sorry to cause the thread to drift.

Your culinary skills are impressive.

My supper was sardines with additional hot sauce, turnip greens lightly  fried with bacon grease, cornbread with jalapenos and a quart of buttermilk with the big chunks. My stomach couldn't take some of the fancy stuff y'all eat.
