I talked to a guy yesterday with a 850T3 FB with over 80k on original chrome cylinders. Anyone top this amount? I told him he was taking a huge chance. He didn’t care.

The more regular the use the better, it's sitting around that leads to flaking.

There was an early Ambo at a rally circa 1995 that the owner claimed had over 120 K miles on the original bores , no idea about the veracity of his claim , but no one challenged him . His riding buddy was on a R69 US Beemer , and said they had done a lot of those miles together , so ...

Didn't Karl Werth (not sure I spelled his name correctly) have something like 250k miles on his T3 before the chrome bores were replaced? Thought I read that somewhere.

I put over 100K on my '70 Ambo back in the '70's. So did a buddy of mine. Didn't know it was a big deal. :rolleyes:

IIRC this engine had 250,000 miles with chrome bores.

Cheesehead of MG Cycle had a loop sidecar rig with well over 100K. It was in daily service, though.

Yes this old lumps are WAY over built and way under stressed. Doomsday stuff for sure but if you get one with chrome bores they need to be dealt with sooner than later.
