Title: Added a Piaggio Product to Garage
Post by: bpreynolds on March 03, 2019, 08:31:30 AM
Just in today off the shipping truck, 2009 Tuono.  Had other Italian fare (MG and Duc) but first Aprilia.  Let the problems commence   Hoping it will be a nice stablemate for the KTM.  As per usual for my garage, we’ll see if it lasts longer than a couple months   Too bad it pulled in today just as the snow was starting.  Probably won’t even get a ride in until well into the week after everything has melted off.

CONGRATS!!  :thumb:  These are fine Italian machines from PIAGGIO!! :thumb:

I came close to buying one myself a few years back...but I thought I would miss the cadence of a Big Twin Guzzi!

Heh.  Yeah, the styling on these was always a little Flash Gordon but I kinda dig it.

Looks good, and as mentioned FAST! You'll have to get a silk scarf and starch it so it sticks straight back. That way, when you are sitting at the traffic light, it will still look like you're going fast.

I test rode the Tuono a few times when Aprila did demo rides at Daytona Bike Week.  Very impressive machine.  I found the brakes, suspension, and transmission to be on par with my Ducati...which is to say they were fantastic.  The only down side was knowing that I'd get in serious trouble because it's just too easy to go crazy fast on the bike.  A man has to know his limitations.

Congrats    Your in for a treat if you like performance bikes. The rotax twin is pretty bulletproof . Stators were the only real weak part and an upgraded one is available. As mentioned extreme discipline is a must on the street. Stay with a soft compound tire as these bikes require a lot of grip. I run Pirelli super corsa's.  Be prepared to replace the rear every 2,500 miles or so. Keep a good eye on tread as it will shed them down to cords in short order. You may not even perceive the wheel spin under power but it's happening. Perception of speed on a tuono is mind boggling. Even as mostly a naked bike, you will feel like your doing 50 mph and look down to discover you could be going double that. Watch your speed into turns as it's way easy to enter too fast if you are not aware.  Enjoy and stay safe!

Those are awesome bikes!  What is the history behind the bike?  How many previous owners, mileage etc.?   :bike-037:

Love them!! just sold my Falco last summer just wasn't able to lean on my old wrists for too long.  Rode it at Sears point once was one of the best times I've had on a motorcycle!

Thanks for all the well wishes and information.  Appreciated.  And yes, I will certainly try and demonstrate some serious restraint.

The bike itself appears extremely well kept for the most part.  Damn near new except for some scatches on plastic belly pan.  I purchased it off a kind of collector car/power sports dealership in Florida where it was reportedly traded in by its original owner, a snowbird who moved to Florida permanently and no longer is riding; has 4997 miles on it.  Came with its original manual and secondary key.  All that if you believe what a dealer tells you about a bike; I generally don’t but I could almost believe it with this one.  Looks the part.
