1967 Stornello 125cc Restoration Assistance Needed
« on: September 16, 2026, 11:52:55 AM »
I'm a newbie here and need some guidance on a restoration project of a new to me 1967 Stornello 125 cc. I just picked this up from a buddy and it is a one family owned since new in the US (NJ) and then relocated to Puerto Rico many moons ago. I moved here recently and want this for a runabout but I haven't had a bike since teen hood. I am a car gearhead and experiemced at restoring older Italian cars; Alfa Romeo and Fiats.

I'd like to start with:

1.  how to get the MY specifics, i.e., Sport, Sport/America, Scrambler, etc. I have some reference material downloaded like the factory manual.
2.  Fluids, spark plug' suspension, bushes and other maintenance upgrades as things have changed over the years.
3.  Parts suppliers and suggestions for logistic specifics to Puerto Rico.

I'm having trouble with the VIN on the bike but the BOS is - T*91GN IGM 22780M  (VIN Correction)

This one appears to be pretty complete and original

Any advice and guidance is appreciated.

Are you sure that "7" isn't a "T"? In "80 Years of Moto Guzzi Motorcycles" by Mario Colombo, it lists:

Stornello 125 Sport (1961-1968)
from frame number T 00 AA to T 99 GZ

You are right about the 'T' in the VIN. I double checked and corrected it.

I am trying to source:

1.  A parts manual and

2.  How to verify the model by the VIN so I can get the parts ordered and get the correct ones.

Here ia an example of the full

restoration/rebuild. 1984 Alfa Romeo GTV6 2.5

Your VIN, T 91 GN, fits within the range for a '61 -'68 Stornello Sport. How much more verification do you need than that?  The Turismo VIN range was N 00 AA to N 49 NA.

Charlie,  That's what I needed to verify. I did locate the model difference basic descriptions as attached. There's nothing like ordering the wrong part because yer lazy arse didn't do yer homework properly.

Thanks,

Brooks
