down on I69 headed toward Indy. Didn't see it for long..

but it looked bitchin, and the guy wasn't riding it like an Indian or Hawg.

I didn't realize they were actually for sale.

Hmmm. So, I looked at their site, and saw the variation on their FTR 1200. Definitely sporty, but in a picture of a rider on the Rally, the riding position looked seriously goofy. Who knows...maybe it's comfy, but it shoulders, hips, and ankles appeared to be in a line 90 degrees to the road surface. Odd.

I took a test ride on it. It's got good torque, good power. I think it tops out in 8k range, so the power isn't over the top. The big deal is that big front tire. So the bike has aggressive geometry and wide bars and steers quick enough. And then when you lean into it, you can feel that big front tire grip.

It's a neat bike. If you're looking for a sporty naked bike, check it out. I don't think it would keep up with a Speed Triple or Duke but no one's going to ring out the power on those bikes most of the time. I'd say it's on par with my 939 Duc for engine performance. The handling is different and not comparable but might appeal to an upright rider.

Speaking of nice, vintage Indian's...I like this 1939 Sport Scout. (For Sale on BAT now)

One would not have to go fast on this one...just show up at any rally or bike night on it!!

On a whim, I went in to the local Indian dealer to see about a sales position. I thought: "kind of a niche bike, place must be full of bike enthusiasts. And hell, I'm their demographic-- older guy with some disposable income." Sometimes, I'm stupid/naive. The sales manager was a former used car salesman who doesn't ride. None of the salesmen ride or even have a motorcycle endorsement. The same is true at the local Harley dealership. Talking to the manager was excruciating. I should have just walked but some innate polite impulse prevented it. He mentioned 'lifestyle' more than once.

Jeez, seems like it would be like trying to sell cars without having a driver's license.

That sporty Indian looks good in person. The ergos on the Scout make it unrideable for me. Most of the others look like whore's roller skates. It's a pity since I hear that they are very good machines,

When I go into any motorcycle dealership these days, and discover this about the staff...I just shut down and stop talking...

How do you even relate to people who don't even ride?!?

As I've said before, I don't know why Indian didn't make a standard frame bike with this engine with mid and rear mounts, cafe and sport touring versions. Instead, they make $15k play bike. Nothing wrong with that but I don't why they limit it to cruisers and street trackers.

My riding buddy from the hood has rides this Indian Springfield. It is a very nice cruiser. I have ridden it and basically, it the "Road King" from POLARIS. It is a a cool bike.

I purchased an Indian FTR-1200S over ~~five~~ Edit: two months ago, just as soon as we came out of our first --19 lock down.

It's the first non-Guzzi I've purchased for the last twenty-five years. My intention was to get a Buell, but thankfully I saw the FTR-1200S on sale @ NZ$19,995 (approx US12K) all taxes, set up, etc. I couldn't resist, and has been my favourite ride ever since.

Water cooling and large radiator is something I have had to get used to. It has the same torque as my Cali 1400 Custom, but 28% more power, and is lighter to boot. Yes, there are a lot of faster bikes around, but I want to keep my licence.

Others may disagree, but I find it very comfortable to ride. Time will tell whether it stays my favourite,

I must admit JJ, it looks a bit of a nightmare with all those pipes. however. on the Vin, not only are the valve clearances easy to get at but the carbs are easy to get at being on separate manifolds and are basically sitting in the breeze.

Those external oil pipes certainly make things look busy though.

Not quite a 1200, will an 1100 do? Bought used last fall with 3K miles. Mucho cheaper (Guzzi content).
