Love that right foot heel toe shifter...heel down for a upshift too...after using mine it becomes more natural than a left toe only shifter...the shocks look great what a good idea

Awesome Charlie!! Nice looking bike. Just curious as to carbs you are running and their jetting? I think I am running a more open exhaust than stock on my V700 and it seems to be running a bit lean to me. Curious about what you are running in terms of pilot jet, needle jet, needle and main jet. I am running VHB29 carbs on mine with the stock restrictors but stock carbs would have been the remote float bowl jobs.

Running VHB29s with the original port reduction tubes (they're not really "restrictors") - the original SS1s are still in a box somewhere in the previous owner's garage.  At first I had stock Ambo jetting: 45, 145, V5 middle notch. After the first test it became evident that it needed a bit larger idle jet, so that's now a 50. I plan to raise the needle (clip in the bottom groove) and I think it'll be "perfect" then.

Incidentally, these are the exact same changes I made to John's (m13 here) V700 to get it run well.

Charlie did a GREAT job on my rebuild,He will have great fun on his beautiful new adventure build!
I found this motion picture historical archival footage that shows that Charlie's V700 will certainly make a capable off-road workhorse!

That was great!  Paul Van Hoof and Nick Adams are my heros and inspired me to build this bike to ride all of the "backcountry" I can find. https://youtu.be/N45yjSG0nOk

The original owner was stationed at Ft. Lee, VA at one point in his life and rode the bike to work each day. That's part of the bike's history, just like the "Alpino Green metallic" paint, so they stay. I think they add a little bit of a military vibe to the bike.

Thank you for clarifying.  I assumed it was some silly state rule or something.

Is that what they call provenance?   :thumb:

I don't think I even owned it when you were here. Bought it Nov. 2017, then it sat in my friend Leo's storage building until April of last year.

Thanks!! Was thinking a larger pilot jet was in order. Bike stumbles just off idle. I can't remember for sure but I think I did play around with needle position as well. Are slightly larger needle jets available?

"Needle jets"? Idle and main jets of various sizes are readily available, I've never found it necessary to change the atomizer (265) or needle (V5) from stock.

Sorry, meant "atomizer"! Problem seems to be just off and on idle so am thinking that a slightly larger pilot jet might help. Was also thinking slightly larger atomizer might help as well. I assume that main jet size will have zero impact at these throttle positions. It's been a while but I think I did play with needle (V5) position and my recollection was that lowering it seemed to be too much of a change and bike ran too rich. Gotta get my R75/6 finished up and get back at it and play with V700 jetting some more. I am running the stock airbox but slightly more open exhaust than stock.

You can use the exhaust from any other Loop (Ambo or Eldo), but fitting parts from Tontis could prove problematic. Good quality chrome and stainless repro headpipes are available from MG Cycle and Scrambler Cycle. Both have the cigar mufflers in both small and large outlet.

Out for another ride today. Yesterday it was pouring down rain most of the day, plus the family gathered to celebrate my mom's 87th and sister Carol's 64th birthdays. So, no riding yesterday. After running some errands in the Eurovan this morning, I decided to go for a little ride this afternoon over into eastern WV. Flooding in a lot of places due to Saturday's and Sunday's heavy rains. WV must be too poor to afford "Road closed xx miles ahead" signs - I'd ride down a road several miles, only to find a barricade across the road and then have to backtrack the whole way back out. :-( Still had fun though.

The V700 is running better than ever and has met or exceeded my expectations/hopes in almost every way. More power than I expected, very torquey, very smooth, shifts well, handles very nicely, stops well. Suspension needs more break-in time, but isn't bad. Just over 50 mpg on the first tank. 136 miles today, so just under 250 total so far. One more ride and then I'll retorque the heads, adjust the valves, etc.

Scrabble Rd. near Bedington, WV.

The water was about a foot deep and flowing fast.

Same creek, different location miles upstream. Allensville Rd. near Hedgesville, WV.

Three miles in, just to turn around and go back out. About a mile or two past here the road runs down along the creek, so I'm guessing that's where it was flooded.

High and dry in Antietam National Battlefield.
