Stelvio - cam roller kit?

I have recently been considering the purchase of a 2011 Stelvio that most likely requires that 'roller cam' update kit.  The price for the bike is approximately $6,000 Canadian.

Does anyone know what roller kit this 2011 Stelvio will need, and a supplier plus the costs? I am simply an average backyard mechanic, and hopefully this repair is not beyond my ability.

The kits are around $1200.00 to $1500.00 if you can find one.I can put you in touch with a guy (in New Jersey)I know that was selling a low mileage  blue 2015  Stelvio NTX for $8000.00 (he may have sold it) If your interested I can find out ,and maybe get  you two together. I would much rather have a 2015 with factory rollers and all the pluses that the NTX has  such as luggage,8.5 fuel tank to name a few.

Couple of things.

(1) If you go through a dealer, and thoroughly document, photograph, and transmit photos of the current wear condition of the tappets that are in the bike to Guzzi corporate, Guzzi MAY supply the necessary hardware to the dealer free of charge.   For a 2011 model that is the "A kit" (earlier models are B or C kits.   The "A" kit is the least extensive).   That would save you $1000-$1200 or so.

(2) If a dealer does the work, it will be 7 hours or so labor, which at my dealer was $800.

(3) If you want to do the work, Pete Roper has done a video showing how it is done.   You can watch that video and decide if the work is within your confidence level and mechanical powers.   There are a couple of fiddly parts where you have to hold a screwdriver AND your mouth just right to get a spring to behave, but you can look and decide if you want to try it.

If the current owner/seller is aware of the condition, and is aware of the fact that EVERY flat tappet Stelvio will fail in 5,000 to 40,000 miles, he should offer you a discount to help toward the upgrade.

Lannis, it's far more likely to be a 'B' kit bike. You need to confirm by pulling a rocker cover for a looksee.

B Kit is the least expensive. Should cost you about $750 from TLM plus postage. B kit, along with A kit, are the easiest to install. The heads don't need to come off but on a small tank model getting the tank and bodywork off is a PITA.

Lannis's bike was I believe a C kit machine which required the heads to come off. A 2011 takes less time.

My video doesn't show the entire process but it does cover the removal of the LH cambox. The screwdriver trick is depressing the LH camchain tensioner plunger. Not difficult but care must be taken because if you damage it it's an engine out job to replace the blade.

There are a few '11's that take an A kit I think but they would be at the very end of the year's production. I'd like to say but can't be certain that the change over point coincided with the switch to the big tank and later bodywork.

Popping a rocker cover will let you know. If the rocker cover has an O ring in a groove that seals on a tube that pokes through the rocker carrier casting its a B kit engine. If the cover has a groove facing down that holds a circular gasket with the same cross section as the main rocker cover gasket it'll be an A kit bike.

Note that the two different rocker covers also require different tampons.

I had a 2009 Stelvio I traded in a few yrs ago and knew nothing about this roller issue until seeing it on here after the fact.

I never noticed any issues with mine, what would an indicator be if you had the problem? (i never heard any strange noises, grinding noises, etc)

That's the problem. There are no serious indicators until the damage is well advanced and by then other engine damage may of occurred.
