Westfield, NJ. The first time I rode a motorcycle by myself.
My late brother had a friend whose dad was very cool. Also President of Anchor Motor Freight; distributors for GM cars. He bought the same model for his son. None of us old enough to ride on the street, we rode circles and eights in his basement. IOW: How did we survive our teenage years? R3~

With a little modification it could be a really good bike to take to Bonneville Salt Flats.

Probably not, at least in tech terms.

Munro's bike was a very early Scout, which were approx 600 cc, before he modified it to nearly 1000 cc.  The Junior Scout was a later incarnation of approx 500 cc with different frame and more.  There were several variations of the Scout.  I had heard a lot about them before spending our recent rallies hiring the Wall of Death, including the World's oldest regularly performing WoD rider Wahl E Walker.  He shared a lot of history about Indian & the WoD, preferred models based upon engines and frame variations, etc.  We have some great Indian experts around here and have featured them at the rally, but adding the WoD details was very cool.  There's a simple overview of Scout models in general on wiki.

As more Indian/HD trivia in the 30 ci realm-  it is claimed that the US war Dept specified a 500 cc bike for WWII service.  Indian complied with the 30.50 (500cc), which was their specific military model & comparable to the Junior Scout. HD took a  derisive view of that request, claiming a 500 cc sidevalave would be underpowered for service, so bid providing their 45 ci (750 cc) WLA at the same cost as a 500.  Both were used and the HD proved to be more viable & popular with troops, which supposedly helped reputation & post war sales.  Coupled with the introduction of OHV 1936 Knucklehead,  both helped HD beat Indian.
