Pleasant Surprise From the PO
« on: July 31, 2019, 12:15:57 PM »
I purchased my 2016 Stone II from the local metric dealer last year, it had been traded in with 590 miles and had been sitting on their floor for a while. Anyway I was browsing there last week when the sales manager tells me "hey the guy that owned the Guzzi you have was just in and asked if I knew who bought it because he has a seat for it that he'll just give you". He calls the guy who comes there in 15 minutes with a new, 3/4 seat in the box saying I can have it because it was just taking space in his garage. I say I'll buy it but he says "no it's free", I end up giving him $40. Then he pulls some little device with wires from the box says "you can have this too, it's an ECM programer from Guzzi Tech that is married to the bikes VIN and has a map for the Agustini slip-ons w/o the quiet inserts but it's a little rich for it with them in so I put the stock map back on.
Not sure the seat looks good on a Stone with a luggage rack but I like how it sits, it's perfectly flat which allows me to slide up and back. I could do this on the stock seat too but it had a slight hump which I ended up sitting on when I slid back so this one's better for me.

Seat looks good to me, but really the goodness is in the comfort and utility, and not the looks.

Good for the PO, he might have just ebayed the bits off, which would have been OK, but you got them instead ....

Christmas in July!

Yes!

Thanks Lannis, yeah comfort is what's most important to me too. Actually even the stock seat is one of the more comfortable factory seats to me.

Clifton since you had the chance, did you ask why he was willing to part with the bike with only 590 miles on it? Especially since he invested in a new seat and the upgrades? There can be multiple good reasons
I’m sure, just curious.

I really didn't ask but I believe he's one of those who's always searching for just the right bike, he traded it in on a Versys 1000 last year, currently rides a new Tenere' and I believe he had a bike in between those two. Still.... why someone would buy a new Moto Guzzi then buy Agustini slip-ons, a Dart windshield, 3/4 seat, and an ECM programer, only to trade the bike after not even breaking it in or doing the first service seems unusual.

I will say a few days after I got it I noticed a slight intermittent miss which went away after I had the first service done. Then it returned and became worse. Trucked it back to the dealer, they messed with it and said it was fine. I rode it back and noticed the slight mis-firing returned. Frustrated I parked it in the garage and rode my other motorcycle. A week or so later I noticed the rear tire looked low and sure enough it had less than 20 psi. Checked it and found a staple then it dawned on me that low tire pressure equaled smaller circumference tire so the miss was actually the traction control cutting power because the rear tire was turning faster. Fixed the tire and no problem since. Why it came and went was the dealership I bought it from likely topped up the tires prior to me picking it up so it was fine for a few days. Then the MG dealer did as well both times I took it to them.

I did relay this to the previous owner and he seemed really surprised, possibly he experienced the problem himself? Anyway it runs like a champ now, only thing I want to do is replace the gas filter.
