I don't have the definitive answer here, but I think I would be careful with the brake cleaner. You might dissolve the lacquer coating on the windings and make a short somewhere.

I think Canuck750 showed how he did it in one of his builds.

Desolder  all the connections and vapour blast/ glass bead the housing and then gently clean the stator windings with maybe print board cleaner. Resolder everything back together when done. ?

Electrical cleaner and careful hand cleaning of the magnet sections and contact areas is what i do. I coat the magnets lightly with a light machine oil to keep corrosion at bay

If you have a Motor rewind shop in your area they can do a "clean, dip and bake" for a few dollars. If not then the electrical cleaner route will work just fine. I would also disassemble all the connectors and clean them with a fine wire brush. My $.02

A shop that provides an electric motor rewind service?  Wow, I haven't seen that in years.

It would be nice to have it.

get a liter of Coca Cola and a bottle of decent bourbon.

Get a bowl. Pour enough coke into the bowl to cover the stator and let it soak.

While the Stator is soaking, mix the bourbon with the rest of the coke and drink.

While your drinking, install a EuroMoto Electrics alternator kit in place of the original Bosch system, no more worries!

In the unlikely case that you remember the stator, take it out of the coke, throw it away, and give the coke to the dog.

How about this>

When I was an apprentice we used to overhaul lots of motors, I can't for the life of me remember using a fluid, mainly blow with air and re-shelac or sometimes Glyptol.
Shelac is beetle shell dissolved in Methelated spirits I believe
