No disrespect to any current or former Big Apple residents, but reading that article makes me wonder why anyone (that rides a motorcycle, at least) would live there. They'd have to pay me 7 figures a year to put up with all that BS. Nice place to visit and all...but ride? No thanks.
I keep my bike in a motorcycle garage on 8th st, not too far from Hughs and I have an apartment on 7th st right around the corner from 6th St Specials. I have known Hugh for almost 25 years and he is of course right about riding in the city. Today I got a ticket for splitting lanes on Park Ave because of all the traffic due to road closures from all the nice people visiting the UN. Unfortunately, I had to meet a client on Park, so there was no getting around the mess.
The garage cost me $150 per month and I believe the subway cost $2.75per ride. If I had to take the subway twice a day(ugh) that’s about $100 bucks per month, so for $50 bucks and some gas I’m OK with that relationship.
But after living here off and on for 43+ years I’m kind of done with it. Most of my friends have either moved on or are dead and I preferred the city when it was dangerous and no one wanted to live here, as it was way more interesting than it is now. And a hell of a lot cheaper.
