An interesting approach to sidecar propulsion! (NGC)

Hello folks, I ran into this interesting sidecar setup when browsing Craigslist this morning. CBR 600 motor mounted inside sidecar driving both rear wheels....Yeah Baby!!  I think I could get into some trouble with that rig!

That is interesting, Rick.  It looks promising, I’d at least go look at it if it was closer.  I’d like to see how he set up the rear drive.

I had an idea for years that I haven't made anything out of yet. A hybrid sidecar. The sidecar with motorized wheel and battery packs to propel it, solar panels on the body and if you run low, start the regular motorcycle motor and drive/recharge the batteries.

You are very correct , R3.I would love to see the drivetrain setup up close. I would think with both driven wheels,and a differential It would handle somewhat like my goldwing trike......but "different" , maybe much different!
  I showed it to my son, he said "badass!", I showed it to my wife,and she said "deathtrap"!

Thats a great idea, John. The battery packs would serve as ballast, and it would be totally stealthy in "E" mode!

But the underpowered beemer engine isn’t even there anymore, it’s powered by a 600 CBR engine in the sidecar.  Even that will be down on power for the minimum one hp per lb. it’s an interesting approach but I’d use a couple of Griso or similar engines.

A friend of mine and Mfg of my sidecar rides a Volks rig. For years he built Trikes from VW's, trailers, sidecars. I met him in 78 while running the farm. I went to pass a sidecar rig to find out there was no motor in the HD frame, I waved and dropped back behind him. At the stop sign I learned the motor was in front of the trans under the chair. He had 2 truck tarp strap's to the bars to help steer it to one side. He is still riding that rig, I have seen front motor, rear motor, 2WD & 1WD which it is now.  It's quite the bike.
