BUB Exhaust System
« on: November 09, 2019, 09:25:44 PM »
Can anyone speak to the relative merit of the BUB exhaust system aplied to a small valve / low compression square barrel 850 Guzzi? Jetted to suit of course but still PHF30's. Do they all have crossovers above the alternator or just below?  Are they still sought after and are hard to get, do they have a tendency to rust out?

Finally, what alternatives are there out there?

I've had the Bub exhaust on my Le Mans 2 for almost 2 out of the 3 decades I've owned this bike . I loved the LaFranconis , but the Bub just made more
power , keep in mind that my bike was much modified and enlarged from stock . There's well over 100,000 km on it and all I've ever done is repack the
mufflers to keep it down to a dull roar . The larger than stock header pipe diameter probably helped with the larger motor . +1 for BuB . Peter

Might not apply to current Bub's, but in the 1990's I bought a Bub with replica Conti's for my Lemans 1...I looked good and had an agressive sound..It lacked the crossover pipes of the stock exhaust an I believe it cut low end power slightly...

BUB (big ugly bastard) told me he doesn't make 'em for Guzzis anymore. This set was on this bike when I got it in '89. I'ts working out OK  :thumb:

I have BUB's on my 03 Bonny. They are loud, no crossover, rejet, mod'd airbox using a K&N replacement stock A/ filter. big improvement from stock.
Bought the bike new and did the mod from day 1

My bub headpipes cracked at the crossover ( above the alternator). That could have happened due to abuse. My biggest issue was the finish, and the cheap looking collars. I'm thinking about a set of these for my 850t.

I currently have bub contis reps on this bike and love them.

I have chrome BUBs on my '85 LM1000.
They run good with no flat spots. The exhaust collars are crappy but do keep them on. Rust is a constant chore to chase but manageable. I'd rather have stainless but it was a used set on eBay for $300 so I can't honk about it.
Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.

What are these crappy exhaust collars you guys speak of? My 87 LM has a set of black bubs - I think they were jet hot coated eons ago and still look pretty good. No rust, though they have gotten scratched in a few places and touched up.

It's got flat steel exhaust collars and thought they were stock Guzzi. Not? I do like the finned ones better.

+1 on the quality comments vs Mistral. My first set of Bubs bought new from the local Guzzi dealer in 1986 for the CX I owned did not match the mounting brackets to the footpeg mounts . Dennis Manning blamed Guzzi for the problem(?) and would not take them back so the hacksaw and  a MIG welder were used to correct the problem. Other BUB products included several Bevel Conti replicas as well as a set of "Bad Dogs", essentially  short replica Contis for the HD's. Those were possibly the best quality of all the Bub stuff I had ever seen. My current Bub setup is Conti replicas on Standard Guzzi exhaust with straight H pipe and a little baffling to cut down the metallic sound. As it is  it works well for the Hi Comp 949 motor with a B10 cam with extensive port work and LM1 sized valves.

Bubs came on my LMIV. Had them ceramic coated, no issues, loved the sound.

Not sure if they are still around - but they quit supporting Guzzi some considerable time ago.
