G5 winshields?
« on: September 26, 2019, 08:43:11 AM »
I normally prefer unfaired bikes, but after a 250 mile or so trip the other day, I have lower back pain.  So. I need some wind protection because of sitting too vertically.
What are all you folks using?

National Plexistar II. Like the hand protection when it is chilly also. Passenger gets a bit of buffeting though.

I put a re-pop factory police fairing on mine, works just dandy. DonG

I have an original factory screen on my Convert and it's "adequate".

I would like a bit more protection, especially for colder weather, so I may eventually go for a T3 police fairing.

On the smaller size i enjoyed a Street Shield EX...goes well with shorter flatter bars and takes alot off the chest, lots of tilt adjustment, not stainless clamps tho

Bigger size?..Nat Plexifairing III, hides your hands, put foam around the headlight, might need to move the turnsignals, a bit clumsy in strong wind

Intercontinental travel?....Windjammers hands down, specifically the ones w an 8 track tape player, working off course!

It is fairly easy to use a SPI fairing on a T-3 and I would guess on the G-5. Can't use the lower however if you have floor boards. It works well.

I tried one when I first got the Convert on the road - didn't work for me.

Hey Chuck,     I haven't installed it yet, but I picked up a nice used Givi 760 fairing to mount when I get the G5 off the lift.

Here are some photos I snagged (wg?) to give you an idea what it looks like on a guzzi,

Used this National Cycle Plexi -3 on my G-5 for many years ,it really works great,I painted the lower portion black. The Plexi -3 has the lower leg extensions that really help cut wind to your body and face. The Plexi -2 doesnt have those, the problem is I'm not sure these windshields are even made anymore.

The Plexifairing 3 is still being made: http://www.nationalcycle.com/n8693-01.html.

I used one in the past but now have a Plexistar 2 on my T3, and like it better. My handlebars are lower than stock, so maybe my sitting position is not as upright as yours.

I'd recommend any National product that has four-point mounting. Good quality.

A National Cycle Plexistar III would work better for you.  Light and doesn't add too much weight on the front-end.  The III extends pass the turn signals and gives better coverage for your weather.  In Southern California a Plexistar II would be the choice.  I use a II out here.  The III would extend your riding season.

That's a really nice job, Randy.  :thumb: My bars are much lower, though.. I wonder if it would fit correctly?

Chuck - not a G5 I know but I wanted something a bit smaller on the Cali and went with this National.

I rode with it Sunday and really liked it. Bigger than a sport fairing yet doesn’t dwarf the bike and seems to blend in. But enough for decent protection and I CAN SEE OVER IT!

Happy Winter boys!

Can't use the lowers if you have crash bars, either.

I'm still (ahem) engineering a FREE (Guzzi content) Gustafson windshield that Andy gave me. It's looking pretty good, but the proof is in the pudding.. and the pudding is frozen over right now. <shrug>
