OBD II

OK ,

First step is done .   I got my OBD II in the mail today .   Its been my experience that learning the "Terminology" is the big half of learning how to operate in a new field of study.

That and reading the instructions !  :laugh:

So now that I've got this thing , The instructions recommend just plugging it up to my computer and letting it update its self.   

What say you fellers ?

May I suggest reading the Guzzidiag thread. It has a link for the correct driver for the wires.

May I suggest reading the Guzzidiag thread   

That would be a good move.  :smiley:

Some first hand information from someone who has "been there and done that" , is worth more than a book of instructions.  :azn:

My response may not have come out as intended. I wanted you to get the driver for the cable from the link in the thread.

Once hooked up and running, it's pretty easy to use.

Yea , I picked it up yesterday .    So , "They Said" :  A low voltage condition had caused it to "SET" a code "

Well they wanted $126.56 for resetting the check engine light ... then wanted to sell me a battery for another $106.99 + tax .   I suggested they modify that "resetting the computer fee" , and they could sell that battery to me , they didn't think that was a good idea and so neither did I .  :huh:

Somehow the idea of $240.oo for the computer to let me know a new Battery is in my near future just don't seem right .   

That Guzzi to my computer wire might pay-for-itself many times over ?  :grin:   To my way of thinking Sloans just shot themselves in the foot again .

No, don't know beans about Guzzidiag, but willing to learn, I think.  Given our lack of computer abilities that probably won't be easy.

Sounds like I won’t ever be using Sloan’s.  Honestly, if I had to depend on dealerships, I don’t think I could afford a single motorcycle.

I get the impression you're completely flummoxed at the prospect of hooking up the computer and wtf to do next. Btdt, :laugh:

Take a deep breath and think about what you want to accomplish.

From reading your previous posts it sounds like you want to clear the error code, resulting from a clicking/no start low voltage episode.

First thing, these modern bikes are fussy on good batteries and voltage, verify your battery & connections/grounds are good, to set a good baseline.

Beetle is your best friend in the world at this stage,,, in the post above he's laid out a trail of bread crumbs for you,,,follow them;
On his link for that New Improved Guzzidiag Tutorial; identify your ecu that you want to work on and download the respective reader & writer drivers for your model ecu as well as the driver for the chip in your cable. (3 total downloads into a guzzidiag folder that you've created so you know where the programs are located on your computer)

Beetle has laid out an excellent set of instructions,,, do yourself and your bikes a huge favor,,, rtfm,,, lol :evil:

To make it easier to prepare for success, I printed out the whole thread,,, dog eared the appropriate pages and highlighted the things that I wanted to do with guzzidiag,,, and took it with me to the garage,,, so I had a game plan in my mind, and right there in my hand, long before I hooked the computer up.

When I first hooked up my laptop/cable/ECU bike, I recall being stumped for quite a while, because although although I think I was seeing it, I wasn't completely reading the ECU,,, I realized I hadn't launched the driver for the cable and as soon as I did that, I was in like Flint  :thumb:

Just follow Beetle's instructions, ensure that you're connected and reading the ECU properly, then navigate through the menus to the appropriate menu or prompt to reset your error code.

Follow the instructions and should be easy peasy.
