Shinko 712 vs. 230 on rear of 02 California?
« on: December 28, 2019, 03:47:15 PM »
Replacing tires on my Cal stone. Im doing a ton of work to the bike, so at this point Im looking for a value brand tire for it to get off the old dryrotted Lazertech's, and to get a baseline for handling. Im looking at the Shinko tires becouse most people seem to really like them. So any of you that have them on the California/EV bikes, how do the 712, and the 230 compair? Seems the 230 might get a bit more miles, and costs about 10 bucks more.. Any reason to look at one over the other?

From experience , the 230 lasts a bit longer , the 712 has a rounder profile allowing for quicker steering .

I had a Shinko 230 on the rear of the last 4-in-line (750 Kawa) after about 8K miles it was gone .    I've got a 712 on the back of my V7II now with about 1K on it ... when warm weather sets in I'll tell ya how long it lasted ?

The 712 handles very well !    :azn:

BrineyJim reports great wear and handling from the 230s he put on his Vintage last spring. I'll give them a try on mine when the Michilin Activs (which have been excellent) wear out.

I've used Shinko 712, 110 and 230 on my Airhead. I liked the 110 best, but it  had the worst wear, the 230 is the best all round tyre.

Just to give more info..  I was thinking of the 230 tour master on the front if that makes a difference.

I had a tour master on the front of my cali sidecar rig,and a 712 on the rear. worked very well. I got about 7K miles out of the rear, which is as good as a Metzler 880, for much less $$.
FWIW, I used a 150mm 712 on the rear of my 03 cali.
