Cali idiot lights console open?
« on: December 29, 2019, 10:58:28 AM »
After going through the headlight wiring to try to find out why the high beam warning light in my 96 California was not working and finding nothing disconnected, I discovered that I could get it to work if I tapped on the low beam indicator light on the console; obviously a loose lamp or a poor connection inside.  How hard is it to open up that console or replace the lamps.  Any you tube videos on how to do it?

Yes, I know.  Why worry about it?  I just like things to work as they are supposed to which is why I installed a low fuel sending unit where there was just a plug in the tank.  I am still debating hooking up the side stand switch, though; it is handy to be able to start it on the side stand and to not run the risk of forgetting to turn the ignition off when the side stand kills the engine.  And yes, that happened to me with my Triumph.

BTW, my Guzzi's high beam indicator light is white but most of my cars use a blue light.  Is this an Italian thing?

High beam indicator was likely blue and has faded.

Thanks,  All good information.  Guess I need to have some lamps on hand before I try to open it up.

Followup question:  should the rubber covers on the  wiring coming out of the back of the console push up over the square plastic parts where the wires come out?  Mine were slid down the wires and I couldn't quite get them to go over the square parts or stay up.  I didn't see this part in the video.
