I am an hot weather lover.
« on: December 30, 2019, 04:04:25 AM »
Just because we are in winter (well, northern emisphere at least) and we like to remember summer, what was your hotter riding day, while ATGATT?
This summer I was routinely riding with a modular helmet, white summer jacket, gloves, long pants and light boots at a temperature of 93F.
I'm like a lizard and love heat

Then...you need to move to "The Valley of the Sun", aka Phoenix, Arizona, where summer temperatures can go 110 degrees in the day and 100 degrees at night for 8-10 weeks in the row in July-August!!

93 F is barely hot. Like JJ says, real heat (I lived in Carlsbad, NM some days hit 114 deg) ain't so much fun.

it’s a few years back, but probably the hottest ride in full gear (GoreTex Jacket and Trousers) was down in Albania on the Quota. The sign on the bridge shows the temperature. Just as I got back on the bike it clicked over to 41C/106F but i didn’t want to get off to take another picture!

What was "planned" to be an enjoyable few days riding from the midwest to SoCal turned into a survival test.  There was record heat all through the west. When I came into a small motel in Wyoming, the manager said, "A little hot, is it? Set a new record today.. 113."   A memorable morning was leaving Vegas in the (relatively) cool temps and going into a rocky canyon. The rocks had effectively stored the heat from yesterday, and it was like riding into an oven.
Two days were spent watering down a long sleeve shirt, putting it on GAAAA  putting my Motoport jacket over it, and hunkering down behind the fairing. In about 20 minutes, it would be dry and I'd be looking for somewhere to wet it down again.
I've never been on a motorcycle trip thinking I wish I was in a car.. but this one was close..

When I lived in Arizona I called the Phoenix area the valley of the sunstroke. My commute from outside Wickenburg to downtown Phoenix, or to Deer Valley airport was hot but bearable. I would douse myself with cold water,  zip up the jacket, open a couple of vents and head out. Quite nice actually.
I have ridden in temps way over a hundred fahrenheit , 110 to117 for extended periods wearing all the gear. It's the only way in a high temp low humidity environment.  Create a micro climate inside your clothing which is cooler than the outside.
Here in Florida with the humidity during the hot months, there is very little one can do other than ride in the early morning or head north. High temps plus high humidity? No bueno.

density altitude is a bitch!!

I've been in Death valley w/temps  of 120+F. Been thru Needles CA numerous times when the official temp was over 120 but my moto thermometer showed close to 130 (in the sunlight).

When that hot you need to cover your neck (and the rest of exposed skin, very important) from the oven like blast of 80 mph. Also you need to stop about every 30 min. and drink something better than plain water like ugh! Gatorade. (I normally do not drink Gatorade)

Salt tablets are recommended.

I usually wet my tube scarf that protects my neck and keep it wet every stop.

If you don't you can be overcome by heat prostration very quickly w/o warning.

Lived in the arid/desert most of my life, lessons hard learned.

I like it warm. Here in Madison I always say I'm fine if the lake (Mendota) isn't boiling.

Riding around in hot weather can be a different topic. We all have our tricks and dreams about that.

I like it warm, but once it gets in the upper 90°F range I'm not as enthusiastic about riding.

This summer Cam and I ran into a couple 100°F days in and around Alabama that weren't too bad. Him on his new V85TT and me on the RK.

I had reinforced/armored jeans, Stich Darien, and a soaked neck wrap that I would also fill with ice at stops.

It wasn't too bad, but the beer at dinner sure tasted good each night. And then there were the category 5 hurricanes along with shrimp and grits!!!

I do like the heat, but MAN I got caught on some traffic this summer, and 95+ deg, in traffic, in a black leather jacket SUCKS!  I need to add a lighter weight jacket to my riding gear stash this year!!!

I'd rather ride a motorcycle in hot weather than cold weather.  Hard to keep traction in the snow.

It was 46C in Sydney yesterday which is about 114 degrees. My grips started to melt in the sun and when I twisted the throttle nothing happened. I like the heat but thats a bit much for me.

This is the reality of riding in Houston.  I still go AGATT.  Sweat cleans off more easily than blood.

in general i am a hot weather fan. don't much like the cold. lived back east a child and also spent a year in amsterdam during what was the coldest winter in 100 years. you can get used to the cold but i never liked it. when i get a chill across the back of my neck i sneeze - wot's that all about? wiring messed up. as i get older though i am less able to handle the really hot weather. anything over say 95 deg. F becomes unpleasant.

hottest day riding was in the mid 90's while wearing a joe rocket survivor suit with all of the vents open. the joe rocket provides pretty good ventilation but when you get into these temps. nothing really really helps.

went through the mojave once on my back home from a trip to santa fe. i was in the car and air conditioner had broken. by the time i reached los banos i could hardly keep my eyes open. i was exhausted.

these days i just don't ride in the hot hot heat.

After I left the California National ralley..
I hit Barstow and it was 116 at noon. I decided instead of finding a shady spot to hang out till sundown, I'd ride another  couple hours across the desert and visit my uncle in Bull Head City,. The bank sign said  2:00 pm 125*f., as I rolled into town!!

My aunt's iced tea was the best I ever had!!!
