V7 Mk2 Stornello musings.
« on: January 06, 2020, 10:11:02 PM »
Hi , Happy New Year my first post.
I have had my Stornello now for 8 months after owning an 06 Breva 750 . First impressions Stornellos handling immediately felt more stable on fast curves than the Breva and a bit more power. Not sure why maybe the 18" front wheel and wider bars not a great deal of difference between the two bikes  frame/suspension wise.
The bike is a 2017 just 3000 kms thought  better just check the cardan shaft/UJ splines sure enough rear  pinion inner spline dry also swingarm pivot pins not greased one was slightly rusted even. Well worth checking to see if the factory  forgot to grease your DS/UJ splines on a new bike.
The previous owner overfilled eng oil so ended up with  a lot of oil in airbox have since dropped the level to half way on dip stick seems OK but still  a little oil  after long ride .
Also lately had the Mk2 problem of downhill stalling seemed to coincide with the warmer weather .Bike has factory map so it has been cold blooded needs warm up etc. I have now disconnected the O2 lambda sensors and down hill stalling problem fixed and feels much better in town no lean popping and generally smoother.
It is fun to ride and can handle some gravel. In this part of NZ the SBs are ideal as there is very little straight road ie don't get into sixth gear often. Hope to head  down to the Burt Munro at the other end of the island in Feb. Going down the west coast is a blast except for rock falls and camper vans on wrong side of road .
Have found this forum very informative and helpful thanks again.

You probably know. But the beetle map is the best modification i made to my bike. Highly recommend. I too was having stalling problems in warmer weather. Beetle's map made a world of difference.

Glad you like your stornello. Very pretty bike imo.

Just call me jealous. LOTS of good riding around Nelson, particularly for the smallblock. It would be nice to become familiar with the Kenepuru Rd up from Linkwater, and the Stornello should be able to tackle the top, gravel end comfortably too. A couple of snaps for us greater unwashed would be nice. It's a great ride down to the Burt, too. Beatle map recommended - get it from www.griso.org.
