V7 racer clip ons
« on: February 14, 2020, 09:48:49 PM »
Talking with a friend who has a V7 Racer with clip ons. He would like to change the riding position a bit to get a more relaxed ride but there is no provision for handle bars on his top triple tree.

Is it a straight swap to get a triple tree from one of the other models of V7 ?

Remove the wire trim on the top triple tree and then he can add risers for handlebars.

Get your mate to ask around to see if he can't find another V7 owner who fancies clip ons & do a swap. He also may need standard length cables, rather than the Racer ones, which are a tad shorter - that for the clutch, throttle pull, throttle push, & if a 2TB, a fast idle - double check the part numbers. He will lose half the pretty bits on the top clamp, but if it's more comfortable, it not a worry.

I've done this on my 2017 V7 iii Racer.  Some details in this thread:  https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/racer-handle-bar-raisers.18235/

With that LSL handlebar there is no need to change out any cables or electric wiring, it all fits fine.  For me, I felt going all the way up to a higher Stone type handlebar set up might be a bit odd with the Racer's more rearset pegs.  For me, the LSL handlebar makes for a perfect riding position.

Also, on the iii Racer, the rear sets have 3 possible heights (adjustable) ... mine came in the middle position ... I changed that to be in the lower position.  Warning, it does take some time to then sort out the shifter and brake level height adjustment as all that feels wrong after changing the peg height.  Like 15 minutes to change the peg position and ~1 hour of fiddling with the shifter/brake angles.

Racer footrests on my V7 Stone are great - with standard Stone bars - but everyone is different.  The footrests on the earlier Racer are also adjustable in 3 positions.  And getting the gear change / brake levers right is just another excuse to go for a ride!

+1 on the LSL bar.  Put one on my V7ii Special, and i like it much better than stock.  I also installed the LSL rear sets and it feels just right.
