CalVin handlebars
« on: February 26, 2020, 10:41:59 AM »
The stock “buckhorn” style handlebars on my CalVin don’t feel very comfortable to me.  I’d like to get bars that have more of a sport bike bend, but haven’t seen much in the CalVin size.  The CalVin has so-called “fat” bars with a 30mm diameter at the clamps, with smaller diameter for the grips and switches.  Has anyone swapped out the stock bars?

I'll give this a little bump to the top and hopefully Sheepdog will see it; I think he swapped in a set of bars from an an older California? model. I just adjusted mine as far forward as the stock bars could go.

Good luck with it

I asked the same question a little while ago and I think it was sheepdog who recommended getting Calif Stone bars.  I did the swap and thought those bars were a BIG improvement.  I bought the bars new from MG Cycle, they were not cheap, the bars are an unusual size as you noted, the necked down section for the controls at 7/8", the older normal size used in Japan bikes and others (not BMW).  I've since sold my CalVin and the new owner might want to go back to the stock bars.  BTW, the Stone bars are a bolt on replacement, no new cables or brake lines.  I'll tell the new owner of your interest, so you'll be able to talk to him directly and get his input.

I got a mount/clamp off a Jackal that accepts 22mm bars and then the choices are almost endless.

The cali stone bars are really a pretty good bend..  A little more high, and a slight pull back then a normal superbike bend..  But a good fit for the rest of the California model riding position.
