Priceless ride
« on: March 14, 2020, 09:39:28 PM »
My Son and I just returned today from a motorcycle trip to the beach to open our stored camper from being stored over winter. He rode his Harley Soft Tail Deluxe and I rode Mother Goose, 2015 tourer. The bikes ran great, the weather was beautiful and the Father/Son experience was so rewarding, we had a blast. We sat up Thursday night until 2:00 AM talking over some aged issues of the past that he had been holding in for years. There were some tears, laughter and on my part apologies that were over due regarding mistakes I made in the past while raisin two  boys on my own. I know, maybe TMI but I consider the guys here as family, especially as much as we argue at times. Just wanted to throw this out in case there may be some of you guys that need a ride with the kid sometime. 👍

Yep, time with the kids is precious.  And discussing issues clears the air and keeps things fresh.  That's great!  Good that the bikes ran well too!

Let me add one one thing which is definitely MG content.
My 2015 1400 tourer just tripped 7k miles on this ride and I’d swear the motor actually just became broke in while on this trip. What was already a great running machine seemed to actually loosen up and ran even smoother with more power and responsive throttle! What a fantastic bike!!

NC:  My Cali Custom did the same thing.  The fuel mileage actually improved as well.
As for my son, I knew his teen years would be tough so when he turned 16, I bought a 500 Ninja for him to start on.  Whenever it was tense between us (and the weather permitted), I could coax him out for a ride.  After a half hour, we would stop for a soda and snack and whatever it was would come out.  I think that allowed us to be friends today with him in his early 30s.
Motorcycles as therapy, I would rather spend the money that way than on a shrink.

Thanks for that Blue, my Son is 41 now and although I’m not always in agreement with some of his decisions and choices, what a fine man he grew to be👍

:thumb: :thumb:Dan. Don't be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes and acknowledging them is the key to moving forward. My Dad and I butted heads a lot when I was young but in the end it only brought us closer.  Glad you both had a good trip!  Plus one on the 1400!

Hi Dan,                                                                                         3-15-20

Really nice to hear about your positive experiences with your son.

I know for a fact that a Cali Tour takes time to break in.  Mine took a good 5k, but when it happened it was really noticeable.  Ran more smoothly, more satisfying, more economical.

I have two "kids", 40 yrs old and 36 years old.  I'd like to know what there break in period happens to be.

Be well,
DougG

Nice read Dan.

I have been on a few rides with my son, with a couple of overnighters.  Sadly, he had to sell his Harley to free up some cash, so until he gets around to getting another bike those rides from the past will have to suffice.

I hear ya. I had to help my boy with his 05 softail deluxe but the money spent was well worth it.
As far as the 1400 tourer I forgot to add the fact that the fuel mileage is still crappy, around 38 mpg average this last trip
