Avon AM226 Roadrider 110/90-18 61V
« on: February 26, 2021, 11:43:06 AM »
Went to buy new rear tire for the T3.
Avon AM26 Roadrider 110/90-18 61V
Everyone seems to be out of stock on this one.

One dealer said Avon informed them that the item was discontinued.

Anyone have confirmed information on this product?

As an aside I see the Mark 2 is available, but......

Avon says:
"According to Avon, the new Roadrider MKII focuses on wet and dry performance during acceleration, deceleration, and cornering. Durability gets a lower priority".

Looks like the AM26 had an 8 mm tread depth and the Mark 2 is 5.6 mm.

I have also been looking for new tires for my California II. 110/90 -18 or possibly 120/90 -18.

However most of these sizes are also 'out of stock.'

Check out the Shinko tire brand, you will be pleasantly surprised at their value and performance, I have personally used them on V11 Sports, Tonti's and Loops, never had a traction fault but they last about as long as a Sport Demon or Road Rider.  DonG

I'm putting ContiGo tires on my Jackal next month.  First time for these for me.

I have used several sets of Road Runners and Riders from Avon. Very nice handling tires but go away quick IMHO. My last rear tire has been a Shinko, the price was about a third less and so far appears that it will last longer. Can't tell any handling difference.

Definitely look at the shinko. I’ve used them for many years 900 lb bikes to 600 lb. Nary a problem, period.

I understand the concept of "handling" of motorcycles and cars in West Virginia. What is considered "handling" in Kansas?

...but Roadriders in 850 T3 size are no longer available.
One dealer said Avon told them the tire was discontinued.

Any input on Bridgestone Battleaxe BT46?
They are available in 850 T3 sizes.

If anyones looking for ultimate grip in those sizes avon motorsport division are I think still doing am26's in 2 different race compounds. Same tread pattern but very different tyre. I race with them and they are fantastic but £150 each.

Avon A26 Roadriders have been discontinued. They have been replaced by Avon Roadrider MKll.
The A26 had an 8 mm thread depth.
The MKII has a 5.6 mm thread depth.
Significant reduction in tread life but NO reduction in price.

No, KS is not WV but we have a few fun roads if you know where to look.

Dennis Kirk has 100 and 110/ 90 18 Roadrider 2 s in stock. I love the Roadriders. I use them on all of my "classic" bikes. They handle great wet or dry and have decent tread life. Supposedly the 2s are better. We shall see.

Those are the "NEW" MKII series that have the 5.6 mm deep thread.
Not the AM26 Road Rider that had 8 mm deep thread.
65% tread life for100% retail price. That sucks.

I gave up and ordered a set of the Bridgestone BT46 tires.
