Sport 1100 ie Drive Shaft Torque Spring

Reinstalling the rear drive on my Sport 1100.

I believe the correct setting for the tension is 70.5 to 74.5 mm from the rear of the spring.

What is the best procedure to attain the spring installation please...

Are you asking how to change the length of the installed spring?  The collar on the driveshaft that locates the spring can be moved after loosening the set screws.

The installed length on my '97 is about 48mm.

The length I mentioned 70.5 to 74.5, I got from Guzziology, stated as measured from the front end of the drive shaft to the rear of the spring installed.

Is the measurement you quote the length of the spring after installation, that is compressed...

I realise how to place compression on the spring using the collar but I was referring to the correct procedure to attain that compression, that is by setting the collar and then fitting the axle to compress the spring or by fitting the axle and then trying to compress the spring by another means...

Ok, I have installed the spring at 48 mm compressed and that was easily achievable.

Can I please have some confirmation from other owners that 48 mm is what their '97 bikes are set at...

And installed measurements will change with compression of the suspension, right.

I think my Centauro manual showed how to set it up, but I don't have that in front of me right now.

Edit: Actually, I do have it electronically. Daytona, Sport 1100, & Centauro.
72.5 to 74.5mm per their method.

Reinstalled the spring to the workshop manual specs...

Removed the final drive from the bike, set the required length with the collar and then reinstalled the final drive and reconnected the torque arm to tension the spring.

All good...

Don't forget to use Loctite on set screws.
