Seeking Some Advice

First some background. The bike is 2016 Audace that I kind of bought new. It was advertised as new but it had 543 miles on it. It was sold new but repo'ed by the dealer due to a fradulent application by the first buyer. The bike had sat for about 3 yerars in fact I tried to buy it at that time but due to a crappy dealer I got the Harley instead. Three years later after being discusted with the Harley I went looking for an Audace. Found one at a different dealer, I rode a couple of hours to ride and or buy it. Due to sitting so long they took it out for a spin during which it dropped a valve.

So they put a new engine in it. Well to get to the point I pulled the tank for a reason we don't need to go into. Anyway I find that there is a short hose, about a foot long, on the vent fitting on the bottom of the tank going nowhere. It doesn't look factory as it is a grey color instead of black. Also under the tank is another hose with a mangled hose clamp on the end that is just sitting there not attached to anything. So I figure it is supposed to go the the vent on the bottom of the tank and attached it there. I tried to find where it goes but due to the maze of wires and hoses I wasn't able to do so.

The dealership's main business is in Las Vegas so I don't know if this is a Cali bike or not. I first saw it in Reno but acquired in in Cal. I don't know if it has the evap canister or not, I can't find one. Since it is snowing and we are on lockdown I have time so I spent several houre pouring through my newly acquired Service Station Manual but I can't find much about the evap system. There is a little bit about tanks that have either one vent or two. Mine has one which the manual shows the hose going down to underneath the bike.

My question is, is this correct and why if it was simply a matter of re-attaching the hose why was there a short one on the fitting instead. Was I right to to re-attach the other hose? The whole ordeal of buying this bike has been an absolute nightmare for a number of reasons. I should have gone to southern Cal for one down there, these aren't common bikes so they are far and few between. The dealer network I got it from now has another, I asked why? It took you three years to sell the one I have. "We got a good deal on it." Another motorsports dealer just took on MG just 30 miles further away. I hope they are better. I also have found missing fasteners on mine and one side cover had a broken stud.

I will quit rambling, but any advice welcomed. I love this bike though and am not looking for anything else until it gets too heavy for my old aching bones.

Lots to digest in there.  Can you post a picture of your fuel cap and a picture with the cap removed?  Likely there is a little "moat" around the fuel cap which captures any spillage or overflow.  That leads down through a pipe within the tank and thence to a hose and eventually to the ground.  It just sounds one of the hoses  you are describing is simply an overflow discharge hose.  On my 98, the hose leads to ground.  On your newer machine, it might be required to lead to a catch can or charcoal canister so that it can be neutralized before atmosphere.

That is a separate hose that is properly connected. It goes down to underneath the bike. That is kind of an overfill protection but the hole is so small that it wouldn't handle much.

Can't answer your question from the provided info, but thought I'd add that unless something changed all US Guzzis are 50-state and have the EVAP systems from the factory.

     I'm not familiar with that bike, but I'm very familiar with the concept of removing the EPA charcoal filter assembly to preclude problems in case it plugs.

     With the funky ownership history of your bike, I think if you can find a good parts fiche/diagram of the fuel/EPA/Pollution systems on your bike, you'll discover you're missing some pieces. It sounds like the plumbing job was only half finished.

     If I remember correctly, when I removed the cannister from my CalVin, I "may" have had to run new longer lines to make the job a little neater.

Unfortunately the service manual has very little just a note about the number of nipples on the underside of the tank.  I will look on line when I get home. We're on the next to last day at work before we shutdown for -.

     Some of the dealers have really good parts manuals online, Harpers, AF1, Stein Deinse sp? etc
