John was quite the ladies man , don't think he ever married , but my understanding is that he had several lady friends over the years . Seems the few pictures he posted over the years have been lost , but there was one taken in a breakfast nook of a lovely bird , she was giving him quite a smile .

I have seen some photos of some of his girlfriends, one was drop dead gorgeous.

The photos I have seen of John as a young man showed him to be quite a fine looking guy.

Sad news. He was a valued contributor to WildGuzzi.  He'll be missed.

Indeed.
His is also one of the most endearing stories of this forum  -  I'm thinking of that engine replacement.

RIP John, and some admiring thoughts to you guys who made that replacement possible.

And when you get older, you don't even have to be "fine looking".   Remember these words of wisdom from everyone's favorite Canadian -

"If the women don't find you handsome, they had best find you handy!"

It's all in the attitude.  Women know.   I'm sure John had it.

My last remaining brain cell seems to think that I have met him, but I can't remember where.

Pretty sure he didn't Dave.  I am pretty sure the Invercargill one was the only one.

So much for that remaining brain cell!  I'm doomed!

I spent my first six-seven years of motorcycling living in Dunedin.  We would (sometimes) travel south to Invercargill, but more often up to Timaru; and of course the mandatory Alexandra Blossom Festival.  I do remember his BSA, I had a soft spot for Gold Flash, but luckily went with a Triumph Tiger 110.

It's a shame that Kiwi Roy's link didn't include the photographs.  Well, not on my computer.  Anybody else get to see them?

Thanks Muzz, poor bugger reduced to living in a tent at that stage of his life. Even a caravan wouldn't have been much better in Invercargill.
Makes me realize how lucky we are to be living in a modern, well insulated house, it gets cold enough here in Taupo.

Never met John , but we communicated frequently , he was someone not much concerned with the trappings of modern life . It may have been uncomfortable at times , John lived his life in a unique way , and while we all miss his presence , I don't think he ever regretted much , or felt sorry for himself . His life did prove that being really intelligent doesn't always lead to monetary wealth .
