Balance Throttle Bodies

Hello!  I am new to the forum, having just purchased my first Guzzi (2009 Norge).  I am very pleased.  But I am posting with a question about throttle body balancing.  I have studied and I believe I have everything I need and know what to adjust, when, and what not to adjust.  But when I went to attach the meter I discovered that the nipples were connected to each other by a length of hose.  It is obviously not a factory installation, as the hose is US sized.  This seems a terrible idea to me, equivalent to leaving the nipples installed and unplugged.  I am thinking I should remove and toss the whole assembly.  Am I missing something?  Or was this just someone else's bad idea about how to plug the test nipples?

I think the nipples are quite often connected through some of the vent system, if you think about it there is no pressure difference when its aligned so no flow back and forth.
The main thing is DO NOT adjust the idle screw on the left hand throttle body as you would on an earlier Guzzi

Thank you, I appreciate your help.  I have located the left idle screw and identified it as something to leave completely alone. Thanks again.

I thought all we had there were grub screws in the inlet manifolds. If you've got nipples & a hose, sounds like it may have been put there for convenience. (Or perhaps the Norge is different, or perhaps a PO didn't want to risk loosing his nipples). Remove the hose, attach the hoses from your vacuum gauge, when all done, either replace the hose or remove & use grub screws. Note - I've noticed that sometimes nipples leak, & seem to benefit from a soft washer - I feel better about it anyway.

Me, I favor leaving the original plumbing in place.
But, some people can't figure it out, so the bypass it and connect the tubes.

To some extent, the vacuum is going to be a close match on both sides, so very little air should flow in that tube. And the hole is pretty small to begin with.
You could get the proper sizes screw and crush washers or orings to seal it. I doubt you will know it though.

Someone did a canisterextomy and simply connected the two vacuum port nipples together with a section of tubing when done. It saved from removing the nipples and possible losing them or finding suitable bolts and seals or rubber caps to seal them off.  No harm no foul.
