It followed me home
« on: April 26, 2020, 05:19:30 PM »
1972 Eldo.
Ive known this bike and owner for over 30+years.

Im only the second owner.

Original owner passed away last year and i was talking to his son at
IMOC/Sturbridge last year i asked him to contract me when he decided to sell it.

Well its mine now and he and his family knows ill take good care of it.

Been sitting for a couple of years so a good going through has started.

No I will not be doing a complete restoration.

More info in the future. I hope to have it on the road by August.

Enjoy

I dig those saddle bags.

Enduros on a Guzzi.  Very rare and valuable.

Holy crap, that rear brake pedal is set high!

The old Girl has a bunch of farcles on it, would be a shame to disturb them, look for another 72 to strip down.
Don't forget to put the passenger pegs down for your friend.

That was the "Gold Wing" of the motorcycle touring world before there were any Gold Wings.

I could tour on that and like it.

Thanks  everyone for the  input.

Yes it has Farkels and in another venue it might read like this.

"There she was, lonely in the in the dark, standing on a corner in the  shady side of town, accessorized  to the max , Farkels  sparking under the only light that was working, stunning
In formal black , offset with white body liner , ready for a ride-------------"

Oops got off topic , Sorry  about that.

But I'm still going for that ride.

Personally, I'd strip that sucker down leaving only the Enduro bags, a windshield and stock seat.

Chuck for now the convert will still be my main bike hopefully I'll get a ride in Sunday someplace  I don't expect to have the El Dorado on the road before August  I do need to go through the whole thing has been sitting for a year-and-a-half two years, and I have to go through it a little bit at a time ,after moving into the house I'm still living in cardboard hell ,but it's not as bad as it was, but it'll be on the road hopefully by August ,got to make IMOC on it this year I hope.

Just an FYI.

This bike has an alternator  that  was .mounted back in the late 70's.
Its a Motorola i think its from a AMC  car.

Its driven from the crank pulley and is mounted to the "u" channel from the triple neck area to the
Cross.brace at the rear of the tank.

Pic soon

Fortunately under 120 pounds of ugly is a nice Eldorado.

Panniers, Trunk, K&Q seat, trailer hitch, mufflers would all have to go followed 1st and foremost by that gawd awful windjammer.

Nope.
It may loose the box and seat in the future.
Did you notice the VW exhaust tips on the mufflers?
Keeping those  too

Congrats on the new bike.

It's got a funky, long distance, comfort at all costs vibe, that the owner obviously put a lot of thought into.

Everyone's different, but I don't think I could mess with the spirit of that bike.

Maybe just a good mechanical refresh so it's ready when the stars align, and you can hop on and head off in comfort, to far off parts unknown.

Glad to see it end up in your caring hands  :thumb:

Wishing you many safe miles

That's a real time capsule. I'd leave all the stuff on it. Well, maybe not the trailer hitch. It's not like it's your only ride...
