Hi there,
I have been working on my uncles old G5 that I inherited when he passed away last fall. It came to me with a bad con rod bearing that caused the engine to seize. Since then I have replaced the engine and been taking care of much needed maintenance to get it on the road.
The latest thing has been getting it to run properly. It came with a K&N mg2640 filter and stock jets (130 main 50 pilot) and was coughing a lot on warm up. I tried to tune with using the mixture screw and had no such luck. After talking with some people it was suggested to get a new 140 main and 55 pilot to allow for some more fuel since it was running lean. The filter was also in rough condition so I was planning to replace that. What I am now wondering is would I be better off sticking with the original jets and going back to a stock air box and filter (if they’re available) or should I stick to the plan of new k&n and bigger jets?
Thanks, and all suggestions welcome. I am still learning as I go with this.
Matt
