My old '48 G3L Matchy had "the last of the wartime" designed engines in it.  Head used to get so hot it would cause the exhaust valve stem to carbon up on a regular basis.  Head was cast iron.

Went like stink for a 350 though.  My bro tends to remind me that one evening running late to pick up his Vincent mag that he peered over my shoulder and we were sitting on 85mph.   In a drag it would take down the 500 single.

 There was a later version of the Welbike , the differences were very small , this could be one of those , although to describe it as a WW2 Corgi is then inaccurate .

Interesting.  British 2-cycle version of the (more common?) 4-stroke Cushman Airborn Scooter.  I saw this fine example at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in 2014.

This is a Corgi, introduced 1948 but based on the military Welbike. I think it's that shape because it was packed in a cylindrical bag for the airdrop.
