1939 BMW - is this for real?
« on: May 05, 2020, 09:35:25 PM »
I don't know much about old BMW's but I would have thought one this old would be worth more than $9000 even if the sidecar is not original.

Even with the Russian chair that is a $45K motorcycle , something tells me it is either a scam or the decimal point is in the wrong place and the seller is dreaming .

Scam, I think.  Look familiar:

If someone bought it for 20K they got a real steal .

You can see that is where all the pictures came from.

I admit I'm not up on vintage BMW prices but considering the prices that a good R69S can go for, that does seem like a good deal.

edit:  so, yeah, the CL ad is a scam.  Pics stolen from the BAT site

I heard these models had servo brakes and the rear drives have a higher failure than the 1100/1150's. Then there is the characterless boxer motor that is dreadfully boring. I'd be surprised if anybody would want it!

You buy one of them to own a piece of history, not fair to compare it to more modern bikes...

I agree most likely scam,,, but what if guy bought it and for any variety of reasons including wife say you bought what and  it cost how much? So do you feel lucky? Probably not.
