Sealer on New Chain Tensioner Mounting Bolts?
« on: June 04, 2020, 07:39:31 PM »
On the 81 G5, with engine on the frame:

When installing the new banana tensioner, should sealer or Loctite be used in those two holes around the front main flange?

I am just relying on the engine in gear and the alignment marks to keep cam and crank straight. I did not get a camshaft holdingtool. (and yes, I captured the tiny oil pump shaft woodruff key)

I tried reading some of the old posts, but after a half hour I gave up looking for the exact tidbit. I guess I should just assume no sealer and proceed since there is no evidence elsewhere.

No sealer needed - both sides run in oil. I do use a low-strength thread locker on the bolts.

Thanks,
There was no evidence of any previous loctite, but I should probably get some. Trial refit of the new timing chain went on pretty good with only about 4 tries. I DID have to move the cam sprocket a degree to get everything back on, but the timing marks line up perfectly.
I should be good to go eh?
