Topaz Mill in Missouri
« on: August 15, 2021, 09:35:14 AM »
I still haven’t returned home from my Saint Louis trip.  But I was able to link up with Guzzistajohn near his hometown.  He was astride a zippy little Yamaha Super Tenere 700.

He graciously lead me along some great Missouri roads, winding up at a fantastic place for a lunch of fresh trout.

Then we roamed a bit until finding the Topaz Mill.  My host had been several times before and knew the owner, so we got an excellent guided tour.

Fascinating place.  One of the few remaining mills that is not just the shell of the original building; it still contains the original machinery and attachments.

One of my favorite Ozarks destinations, and Joe Bob is a great host. Glad I could share that with you Prescott!  :thumb:

Come back again sometime and we can finish the mill tour and start in on the Ozarks spring, cave and ferry boat tours. All pro bono for my legal team

Your post makes me want to buy some stone ground corn meal to make cornbread. A world of difference between stone ground and the other fine ground. Please try it.

Is the War Eagle Mill in Ark still operating? Been thee many times. Put it on your bucket list.

The best breading for deep fried possum is stone ground corn meal, mixed with buttermilk and a touch of molasses.  That’s good eating.

John, I’m totally in for caves.   Let’s do it.

I’m currently looking at a 400 foot deep hole in the Ozarks.  Cedar Falls, Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas.

Where do you get the trout?

The stream next to the restaurant is teeming with trout.

I’m familiar w the area! Hometown is Jackson MO

Alley Springs…lots of natural springs that I believe pop up from the great plains aquifer…it’s amazingly clear blue green water…snorkeling in it is like the Caribbean

Week long canoe trips on the Jack’s Fork, Current River, etc… go thru a rapids, then snorkeling back upstream to catch crawfish for dinner and pick up dumped gear from the paddlers…you could restock beer and ice along the way everyday

Johnson Shut-ins

Mark Twain Nat Forest

Ozark Scenic Riverway

Never ridden the area but its got to be awesome

Great grandfather founded the Jackson Hardware and Lumber by cutting down 30 acres in Arkansas and dragging it back…huge herd of cows, farmstand, crops, the Missouri thing

Yes! We have some beautiful waterways here in the Show-Me State. Interesting Jackson's high school mascot is an Indian
