ive tried everything, one way then the other. turn it over, try it this way, that way, everyway. even leaving it the way it is and installing it, one "arm" sit flush with the pawl adjust and just pops over once moved. even tried adjust pawl adjuster all the way in
here's what I was trying:

I've found it necessary to (carefully) bent one tang of the spring so that it fits correctly.

That’s what I was thinking too but figured I shouldn’t need to bend it if it’s new but...
Also spring steel is not that easy to bend :)

I didn't use any heat. Spring in the vise, grabbed the tang with pliers and bent it.

FWIW the local Guzzi mechanic has told me, when I was doing mine, that some springs just do not work. They have done more than a few, and it's not uncommon for them to try a couple of others to get one that works.

I believe I had the same problem as you with the new style spring. Before I broke something, I ended up taking it to my local shop and he played with it for a while and then started banding it until he was satisfied that it would work right.
At least you have good springs to see how the legs should look/fit.
Damn shame you can't just buy this spring and install it!!!!

Well I'll ask the obvious question, which way would you bend the tang to get the spring to lay flat?
I was glad to see in the videos, that neither spring jumped into the dark corner under the work bench where my springs usually bounce to, lol
Very glad to see this post, I'm sure I'll be doing this job at some point.

I ran into the same problem and didn't install it. The bends are wrong and the wire gauge is thicker which has the spring rubbing against the rear transmission cover. Also odd that it's wound opposite of the original. Didn't look right or fit right so it's on the bench.
