I live in a small town outside Omaha, NE. To say the least most of Nebraska is comprised of stright roads with few curves. It's been refiered to as the land of the square tire. But I am lucky as just across the Missouri River, about 30 minutes from home, is the Loess Hills region of Iowa and Missouri. 1080 squre miles of hills and valleys filled with twisty roads both paved and gravel. It runs along the edge of the flood plain on the eastern side of the Missouri River.
Like many other bikers in the region I and a few friends are able to head out for a day of riding the "Hills" from time to time. Yesterday we did about 200 miles playing follow the leader. I was riding with two BMWs (R1200RT) and one Triumph Tiger 800. I was on my new for this years rides V9 Bobber. Up unit this year I was on my now sold Stelvio NTX. I am pleased to report that I was able to keep up and run with the pack just as well as in the past on my NTX. I would describe the pace on these rides as spirited but sane. The roads being tight and twisty keeps things from becoming a horse power race for the most part. At the end of the ride one of the BMW guys asked me what displacement the Bobber was and when I told him it was an 850 he was a bit surprised and said that he thought it was at least a 900 form what he had seen on the ride. So a great day of riding in the - apocalypse and nice to know that my downsized ride will fill the bill.
