Norge: Stray Bolt
« on: June 22, 2020, 07:09:56 PM »
I just came back from a ride today and found a loose/stray bolt on the ground beneath where I park my 2016 Norge.

Any ideas where it might belong? The motor did not fall out on my ride, but I would like to put the bolt back where it belongs, just in case it is needed.

The bolt is about 2-1/16" long, and it is about 5/16" in diameter. The first half of the bolt is smooth, with no threads.

Thanks!

Can you put something with it to give us a scale of its size? Is the end clean or broken off? If it's not broken, it might be a bolt that a lever pivots on.

From the wear on the smooth shank, it looks like something pivoted on it. Also, the end of the smooth shank does not look broken off.

Looks to be a brake caliper bolt of some type, maybe not from your Norge.

I think it might be a hanger bolt for the catalytic converter.

Found it!

It is the left-side colostomy bag holder.

Here are the pics, right-side and left-side (the left side is hard to see because of the sunlight, but it is definitely missing its bolt):

Thanks everyone for your help!

Good catch.

I thought the tappets on my lair were getting a bit noisy so I took the cover off
One of the tappets and its locknut fell out on the ground.

Lucky find, imagine if it fell out while riding, you'd probably not find out it was gone for awhile.

Yesterday, I also reached out to Jim Hamlin. (I bought the Norge from him last year.) According to Jim:

"Yes, that bolt is unique so it was easy to know where it goes. It threads through the kickstand pivot area and protrudes into the rubber mid muffler hanger.

"Make a lap around the rest of the bike to check nuts and bolts in case anything else has come loose! The kickstand mounting bolts are a known issue, they often need red Loctite to stay put."

Glad you found the proper place to put it.
Just thinking, what a cruel devious practical joke that could turn into. If a neighbor pisses you off drop a bolt on the driveway just in sight under his vehicle, than sit on the porch with a beer and watch how long they spend looking for the place to put it. Probably really work for the neighbor with the classic car who spends hours waxing and cleaning in the driveway and only drive on dry sunny days.

Let me guess. You're the guy that puts oil under the neighbors bike aren't you?
