They had HD plus BMW, Ducati, Triumph, Yamaha, and Bimota.  Very interesting place, no idea if they are still there or what they might be selling now, obviously no Bimota any more.

Actually, Bimota is back.  They were bought by Kawasaki so all engines will be Kawa now.  They're still doing the weird front swingarm and hub steering thing.  Kind of cool if you have a ton of money.  I won't be getting one anytime soon but I'd like to see one in person.

I think one of HDs problems is the glut of used ones on the market.

Although I made the mistake of thinking that same thing back in 2003.   Harley was gearing up for their Centennial year, and was selling tons of bikes ... I was in the Harley shop buying some muffler clamps for my Guzzi (they were pleased and amazed that they fit!), and the guy showed me the shop, and the used bikes in the back warehouse looked like a row of Iowa corn disappearing off into the foggy distance.   It looked like hundreds of them in this one shop.

I predicted that Harley was going to crash hard because of that huge glut of used, high-priced trade-ins when the Centennial hysteria was past ... but it hasn't happened yet.

Someone should calculate, based on sales figures and a reasonable attrition number for crashes, how many low-mileage Harleys from 1983 to today are actually out there today.   I know that a few people (I'm acquainted with a couple) actually wear the bikes out with mileage, but I think we can discount that in the big picture!

Trying to tempt myself with something to buy I came across the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Did a quick search for the "local" dealership and Battlefield Harley Davidson in Gettysburg PA is now selling Royal Enfield,  Vespa's and Vanderhall. Honestly they may have been selling them for years as this is not  dealership I frequent.

Who'd of thought seeing and Indian motorcycle and Italian scooter sitting on the same showroom floor as the American iron?

You think thats bad, spare a thought for the poor, bad ass, tattooed up "Bikie" on his open piped Harley tearing up the neighbourhood. Half the accountants, lawyers and the local plumber are now riding around on a Harley sporting a Bandanna,Tatts, and Staggered Cutoff Shorty Duals.

Whether or not a HOG(NYSE) dealer can put competing or non-competing brands of motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc.. in the same building depends on the franchise agreement and state franchise laws, with older franchise agreements tending to be less restrictive. In today's market local dealers are suffering and the manufacturers would be wise to cut them some slack...

When you have had a franchise since 1945 and they want to force you into a separate building and even out of a city I would think how long you have had the franchise is meaningless.

I was just out at Battlefield HD picking up a "touring" seat for my Royal Enfield Himalayan. There were a few 650 RE's on the floor, tucked into the corner by the parts counter. (they had sold the Himalayans they had in stock)
I had to look up the part number for the seat because the counter guy didn't know how to do it.

Loving the Himalayan. 410cc long-stroke single with a counterbalancer. It will run at 70 all day long on the highway if needed but WOW is it a hoot on the fire roads and single track. I traveled down to WVa and road around GW national forest.

If Battlefield is smart they will market the RE's and sell a lot of them. Great little bike, looks vintage and runs like a top. If I had the cash I would get a 650 INT just to zip around on.

Probably the best under $5000 motorcycle out there today.  You can see some of my ride photos over at royalenfieldowners. com forum.

Verses the Guzzi version of the bandanna,  a dirty t-shirt with food stains all over the front.
