2016 V7ii - pulled swingarm and driveshaft

Thanks to the posts from Smithswede and others, i decided to have a look and grease things up.  25,000 kms.  I don't ride in the rain, but have been caught in a few good soakers on my trips to Virginia.  Very simple and nice design I must say. 

For me, it looks like sand particles are the enemy.  The opening of the spring clip holding the boot was at around 11 o'clock, so that allowed ingress of water and sand.  Fixed that and sealed it up as Smithswede did.  The driveshaft had some surface rust.

I cleaned all the splines well and then greased everything up with the Wurth grease from MG cycle and all good.  Should be good for another 25k.

I actually just took mine off for the first time last weekend, with mileage at 23,000 miles. I ride in all weather, and the bike is stored outside all year usually. I often get milk eventually running out of the vent at least every 3,000 miles or sooner. As expected, when I popped the swing arm off, water just poured out. Low to medium amount of rust on the driveshaft. Splines didn’t seem bad, including normal wear. I cleaned and greased (and dried) everything, and sealed up the boot.

I noticed that the edge of the boot at the end where the inner ring presses is not even, leaving very little rubber to extend past the ring in one spot, so I siliconed both ends of the boot. Just finished replacing the final drive oil, so we’ll see.

i didn't mention it, but i also got rid of the vent, and installed a banjo and brake line in place and ran it up under the seat.  So that won't be an issue.

I did mine about a month ago at 14,000 km. I figure the water is leaking in around the drive boot where the Ty-wrap fastens, its sort of Q shaped. Ty-wraps were designed for fastening cables not making things watertight. I used a metal type to replace it.

Did you use the clamp from the older V7s or something different?

After 7 different auto parts stores I found a CV joint one narrow enough. I'd rather have a screw-type though.

Appropriate sized screw clamps are around. Keep on searching. Note, however, even the good clamps do not necessarily prevent water ingress, nor does silicone. I still get water in there. Another one of life's little mysteries.

I wouldn't leave it 25,000, I'd remove the bevel box each rear tyre change to check, and re-grease the splines.

When you say regrease the splines, is that both Sets or just the rear splines?
