$7,000 is the starting point. for shits and giggles I built one on their website. $9,735 !!! I skipped a couple of frills, the led lighting, went with factory pick up. For California, it would be another $250.00. Then you have taxes. F- that. You can get a really nice used bike for that kind of money.

A new small block or a Yamaha MT 07 can be purchased for less than $10K . I like the looks of the Janus , but there is no way I am paying that kind of money for one .

Meh.. I could find that kind of money under the couch cushions..  When you get right down to it, Guzzis don't make sense financially, either.

Nothing larger than a 150 CC scooter makes any sense financially , and that scooter only makes sense if you actually use it . Still , and this is personal, for that kind of money something with a larger performance envelope is more desirable .

yeah, that's the problem with a small startup. it all comes down to matters of scale. can you buy enough of x-part to get a reasonable discount. can you build a factory large enough to produce the output that will start to get you healthy returns.  part of the way in which they compensate for this is to build only 1 bike per day and to set delivery dates some months off. it would be fun to work in a bespoke shop like that - where you build a bike with new parts from top to bottom.

i ran the purchase options too and my cost out the door (not including any sales tax but including the $700 shipping charge) would be to $ 8875.  everyone's comments about the price are reasonable.

i am watching the john delorean documentary and his problems started when he was running out of working capital to keep a large scale operation going. tesla  is making money now but there are some deep pockets there (money from sources other than tesla itself) and they still wound up going to china for some of their production.

it would be interesting to look at the books for keanu reeves motorcycle startup. i'm sure he has deep enough pockets to support a small motorcycle startup and he has a marketplace built in part upon the cult of personality which surrounds him. that helps. these guys in goshen are just two regular guys with a dream.

their product is outside my price range but i truly wish them all the luck in the world.

Actually I wish them success , but this is reminiscent of the Ridley . The Ridley was a well built motorbike , manufactured right here in Oklahoma . Had the opportunity to ride a couple of them , everything worked as designed , nothing vibrated off , they accelerated at a steady rate up to their top speed of about 65 MPH , the brakes stopped them in modern fashion , the automatic transmission was smooth enough . The company lasted for longer than any of us expected , mostly because of some dedicated employees and a good line of credit . Still , it seems the company never really turned a profit , and bankruptcy ended the company in 2010 ,

That's the second problem with a small startup; you have solve the FIRST problem before anything else.

And that's to be building something that people want to buy .... !

well in this instance it is less a case of building what they want but more so a matter of building it a reasonable price point.

Look, I’m impressed by the fact that someone gets off their arse and has a crack. It would be easy to just sit back and select from what others say we have to choose from, but the topic was not how big a pair they’ve grown, it’s what was our opinion of the finished product.
To me it looks like ill conceived garbage, but I could be wrong..
It’s hard for me to know if I am because I don’t know what it feels like..

I'd take a used one at a much lower price if it ever pops up.  Looks like a fun toy to hit a back roads Sunday with.
I have plenty of other bikes for other stuff.

What are they good for?  Probably just enough power to make you an impediment on the road.  If not a stain.  Consider what you can get from Royal Enfield for less money.  650 Interceptor vs. a goofy little 200c whatizit?  I'd like to have their customer list, because that would be a list of people who will buy anything.

Probably has performance very similar to the bikes it tries to recall. Much ore useful than say, an Airone. I would far prefer the Airone, or whatever sidevalve BSA/whatever, but that would be a bit more than $7500.

You sound like Warner W. Warner from the old Moose TV series, except he kept "that kind of money" in his sock drawer.

Back when I was living In Mich. I got an old PU Triumph for a hundred bucks and spent maybe that much more to get it running. Rode it like that for over ten years, so maybe that's the only way a bike makes sense financially.

The Janus seems like a hodge-podge of old and new stuff that certainly doesn't do much for me, and I have a beard and an occasional Latte, but like I always sez, to eaches his onus.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it when searching for mentions of the Suzuki TU250X (my current bike). The Janus Halcyon caught my eye as soon as I saw a picture of one last year, and if I could justify having a bike that would serve as purely a fair-weather rider, I'd absolutely be saving up for one.

Despite always wanting to eventually ride a motorcycle when I was a kid, I came to them as an adult from the world of bicycles. I own a 1937 Raleigh bicycle that I absolutely love riding. Its brakes were already old tech when the bike was built, but there's just something really viscerally fun about riding a bike like that, and there's almost nothing current that looks and rides the same way (Pashley comes close, but it's just not quite there, and the Flying Pigeons are not of the same quality). It was seeing my 1937 Raleigh bicycle next to a 1930 Harley Davidson motorcycle at a car show and noting their similarities that reminded me that I'd always wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle, and directly prompted my signing up for the MSF course last year.

So, I love stuff that looks older than it is. I always have. I thought the Plymouth Prowler was a really cool-looking car for that reason. I'd love to own an Excalibur Phaeton. I chose my TU250X in large part because it looks the way I feel that a motorcycle looks, but I'd love to have something that looks even older. From an aesthetic standpoint, I really like the early days of motor vehicles, especially in the 1920s-40s, and the Halcyon looks like a 1920s motorcycle. I bet it'd be great fun to ride around on back roads, plus it's absolutely beautiful.

Here's a 1929 Raleigh motorcycle:

They *are* nice looking in the flesh, nevermind the modern engine.
I had to say, " get off the bike, you little creep, I want to sit on it, "though..

It sits "right" and I think it would be fun. I wish them well..  :thumb:

How could you NOT have a blast on that bombing around with nowhere to be and all day to get there.
If used pricing goes where I think it will I'll have one.  Not at >7K though, but I'll be happy to take the one somebody will unload because "it's not fast enough".

I see that.  Good for them.  I met the team at the Cleveland IMS show last year.  Seemed like very cool folks.
I'm content to wait for 'that guy" who wants to dump one.  No rush-I have 4 in the stable as it is.

And, the build quality looked real nice as I poured all over the bike they brought.  It's only a look, but the workmanship seemed very competent.

Yeah, the quality is there..as it has to be if you are asking a premium price.

I doubt many are buying these, not knowing what they are getting.  Probably many other bikes in their stables.  As successful as the Ducati Scrambler is purported to be, I rarely see a used one for sale.
